Salary: $110,000 - $163,000 per year
A bit about us:We are a national commercial and industrial construction contractor operating inside a larger publicly traded organization founded nearly a century ago. Our specialty exteriors group self-performs roofing and siding work for commercial and industrial clients nationwide, sitting alongside sister lines in insulation and scaffolding that we collaborate with daily. You get the resources and stability of a large parent with the decision speed and visibility of a small shop. Tenure here is long: our project management leadership has been with us well over a decade, and this role exists only because the person in it was promoted into a director role on another business line.
Why join us?- Rapid, funded growth: this division roughly doubles-plus in revenue next year, with the backlog already won — you're hired ahead of the work, not behind it
- 20% annual incentive target that can pay up to 1.5x for exceeding goals, so up to roughly 30% at this level
- Self-perform work with real technical depth. You will not spend your career administering subcontracts — you own scope, crews, and outcomes
- Complexity over headline dollars: we assign our senior people based on schedule pressure, scope difficulty, and customer demands, not just contract value
- A staged, honest path into leadership — roughly 90 days to get grounded before you take a direct report, then a second as the group grows
- Genuine investment in leadership development and a seat on company initiatives, with your voice actually expected in the room
- Cross-training available across our other service lines if you want to broaden technically rather than stay siloed
- Publicly traded parent with an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, profit sharing, and 401(k) match on top of base and bonus
- Long tenure, low ego, and a director who will teach you the specialty if you come from adjacent industrial or commercial work
Job DetailsThis Senior Project Manager oversees a portfolio of concurrent projects, including the most complex and highest-risk work in the line of business, and provides leadership, coaching, and performance oversight to Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers. This role differs from the Project Manager level through portfolio responsibility, formal oversight of other PMs, and accountability for elevating the project management function. You are the first line of escalation when a PM on your team hits a customer issue. Open due to an internal promotion.
Leadership
- Invest genuinely in the development, wellbeing, and success of every team member, and build a culture that supports the vision, values, strategy, and business objectives of the organization
- Formally develop, coach, and provide performance feedback to Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers in project management methodology, customer and client relationship development, P&L ownership, and the technical skills needed to lead projects
- Expand the team's capabilities by establishing best practices, policies, and processes, and lead hiring decisions for new team members
- Serve as first line of defense on escalations, engaging customers directly to resolve project issues before they reach the director
- Partner with the Director of Field Operations and field leadership to drive best-in-class project execution with safety first in every decision
- Lead lessons-learned and continuous improvement initiatives that shape how the PM team operates
Division / Project Requirements
- Manage and execute multi-million dollar or multi-phase projects of high complexity and high risk, ranging from $1M to $70M
- Manage project load using established project selection criteria and balance project management resources across the team
- Plan and execute projects to meet safety, quality, productivity, schedule, budget, and profitability targets, conducting planning reviews before, during, and after each project
- Identify project changes that impact cost, schedule, or labor; ensure change orders are issued, negotiated, and processed accurately and on time
- Gather and report project data supporting site supervision, project management, leadership, and audit compliance
- Own project financial health by monitoring billings, collections, cash flow, and cost against budget on assigned projects, and provide oversight of financial health across projects managed by direct reports
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers; engage regularly to provide project status, lead and attend project meetings, deliver consistent progress reporting, and maintain historical project records
- Own strategic relationships on key accounts, including executive-level communication
- Conduct post-project evaluations and recommend improvements to project management procedures and company business practices
Required Skills & Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the professionalism to hold a difficult customer conversation independently
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software
- Thorough understanding of contracts, drawings, schedules, and specifications
- Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment, make sound decisions under pressure, and manage multiple priorities while solving problems
Qualifications
- 10-15+ years of project management experience in the construction industry
- Self-perform construction experience strongly preferred; backgrounds limited to managing subcontractors transfer less directly to this work
- Demonstrated leadership of Project Managers or Assistant Project Managers
- Time spent in the field at some point in your career (field supervision, project engineering, or similar) is a significant plus
- Industrial or heavy commercial background preferred; power, energy, pipeline, or similar heavy construction is highly relevant. Specialty exteriors experience is a bonus, not a requirement
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or similar field preferred
Travel
- Approximately 2-3 days per month to project sites and customer locations, typically 1-2 nights away and usually by air, since most projects are out of state. Travel is project-driven and largely self-coordinated
Compensation
- Base salary range $109,000 - $163,400 annually, plus an annual incentive with a 20% target that can pay up to 1.5x for exceeding company financial goals
Benefits
- Medical, vision & dental insurance, 401(k) with company match, profit sharing, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, PTO, FSA/HSA, training & development, and more
- Not eligible for sponsorship. Offers contingent on satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug screening and background check. Equal opportunity employer.
