Senior Project Manager
Location:
Portland, ME
Employment Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite at Project Sites
Compensation: $140,000–$160,000 annually (DOE)
Additional Compensation: Discretionary annual bonus + $452/month vehicle allowance + $80/month phone allowance
Travel: 40–60% travel within approximately one hour of the primary office/project area

Position Overview

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager for a direct hire opportunity in Portland, ME. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of project delivery from initiation through completion while ensuring safety, quality, financial performance, and client satisfaction.

The Senior Project Manager will lead project teams, manage budgets, subcontractors, schedules, and vendor relationships while ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with project objectives. This role requires strong construction leadership experience with expertise in project controls, contract management, and large-scale facility or infrastructure projects. Candidates must reside within a commutable distance of Portland, ME.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead all phases of project implementation and execution from project handoff through project closeout

  • Oversee project scope, schedules, budgets, and overall performance objectives

  • Partner with leadership to ensure project requirements and code compliance standards are met

  • Establish project goals, key milestones, and client expectations

  • Manage and mentor Project Managers and project team members

  • Collaborate across teams to ensure successful project execution

Financial & Contract Management

  • Manage project budgets and financial performance across multiple contract structures including Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP), Lump Sum, and related delivery models

  • Review and manage contract requirements including schedules, reporting, insurance requirements, notifications, and project deliverables

  • Conduct monthly project reporting and cost reviews utilizing project management and accounting systems

  • Negotiate and execute subcontract agreements and vendor purchase orders

  • Manage project change control processes including RFIs, revisions, directives, and supporting documentation

Project Controls & Operations

  • Oversee project management systems and document control procedures using Procore

  • Ensure development and maintenance of project schedules and milestone tracking

  • Lead project meetings and ensure agendas, meeting minutes, and documentation are completed and distributed

  • Maintain risk logs and communicate mitigation strategies with project leadership

Safety & Quality Management

  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment through site planning, safety reviews, toolbox talks, and site walkthroughs

  • Support Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) reviews and overall project safety initiatives

  • Ensure implementation of project-specific quality assurance plans and documentation requirements

  • Monitor site utilization plans with emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and access control

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders

  • Serve as a key point of contact throughout project execution

  • Participate in industry organizations and community engagement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field experience in HVAC, Plumbing, or construction disciplines

  • Minimum 8+ years of project management experience within construction environments

  • Strong leadership and team development skills

  • Experience managing budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and client relationships

  • Experience with contract administration and project delivery methodologies

  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Procore

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10–12+ years of healthcare, industrial campus, or large-scale facility project experience

  • Project management experience with mechanical or electrical contractors

  • OSHA 30 certification

  • CPR and First Aid certifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred

  • Procore certification preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding as needed

  • Ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods

  • Frequent use of hands and repetitive motion activities

  • Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds

  • Ability to work in both office and active construction site environments with occasional exposure to construction noise
