Role: Sr. Project Engineer / Sr. Solutions Engineer

    Location: Houston, TX 77084 (Onsite)

    Job Type: Full Time

    About the Role

On behalf of our IT client, we're hiring a Sr. Project Engineer (also known as a Sr. Solutions Engineer) for a full-time, direct hire role at a growing managed IT services provider in Houston. This is a hands-on execution role, not a leadership or architecture position - you'll be the person actually running the project, from racking hardware to migrating tenants to closing out a client's Technology Business Review.

You'll drive IT projects from scoping through delivery for clients typically in the 50 to 100 employee range, working across a genuinely balanced mix of on-prem infrastructure and cloud migration work. Along the way, you'll also own the security posture of every project you touch, making sure client risk, compliance, and service commitments stay protected as changes go in.

If you enjoy variety, client-facing work, and being trusted to make the right call under pressure, this role gives you room to do all three.

    What You'll Do

    • Lead the scoping, technical planning, and execution of IT projects, including task breakdown and estimation, delivered within budget
    • Execute Office 365, SharePoint, and Azure cloud migrations, including secure tenant-to-tenant transitions with minimal client disruption
    • Design and install network systems for client office openings and relocations, including firewalls, switches, and access points, plus VPN setup and clean cable management
    • Configure and install server hardware and software, maintaining detailed documentation and compatibility with existing infrastructure
    • Manage Hyper-V environments, including live migration, export/import, host upgrades, and VM storage
    • Deploy Intune across client organizations and ensure devices are configured and compliant
    • Perform AD migrations, ensuring accurate replication of user accounts and permissions
    • Evaluate the security, compliance, and contractual impact of design and troubleshooting decisions before implementation, building security requirements into every project plan from the start
    • Support client security and compliance initiatives, including MFA enforcement, password management, MDM, O365 security hardening, IT audits, HIPAA and other regulatory reviews, access governance, identity architecture, and data protection implementations like Microsoft Purview and DLP
    • Lead client lifecycle engagements, including onboarding assessments, post-acquisition IT readiness discovery, and structured decommissioning projects with data preservation requirements
    • Produce written deployment plans covering domain structure, naming conventions, IP/subnet schemes, and network diagrams, and secure stakeholder approval before configuration begins
    • Define and execute post-change validation for every migration, including replication health, data consistency, and application checks, and document root-cause analysis for failed changes
    • Design, implement, and verify backup and disaster recovery plans, including documented and tested restore procedures, in coordination with the client's backup partner
    • Maintain real-time ticket documentation and IT Glue/MyGlue records, author SOPs, and support Technology Business Reviews
    • Act as a technical liaison during pre-sales consultations, including project estimation and client scoping conversations
    • Provide regular updates to the Project Manager and collaborate closely with other engineers to keep projects on timeline

    What You Bring

    • 8+ years of relevant IT experience, including previous work at a Managed Services Provider (MSP) or IT consulting firm
    • Strong installation and cabling experience, including racking servers and network equipment
    • Proven Azure migration expertise, including hands-on Intune deployment
    • Strong Hyper-V expertise: live migration, export/import, host upgrades, and VM storage management
    • Server configuration and installation experience alongside network setup, including firewalls, switches, and access points
    • Deep working knowledge of layered security environments, including endpoint protection, application allowlisting, email security gateways, Group Policy hardening, and MFA/identity controls, with a clear understanding of how a change to one control affects the client's overall risk profile
    • Hands-on experience with business-class backup/BDR platforms such as Acronis, Datto, or Replibit, including tested restore procedures
    • Experience delivering in co-managed or partner-supported models, working alongside vendor engineers
    • Strong consultative scoping and estimation skills, with the ability to write a clear SOW-level scope and justify investment to a client decision-maker
    • Strong expertise with MSP technology stacks, including ConnectWise, Kaseya, IT Glue, and common backup and security platforms
    • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into business terms for clients and stakeholders
    • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle suitable for transporting equipment such as servers, workstations, or UPS units to client sites
    • Willingness to travel locally and regionally within the Greater Houston area, with occasional in-state and out-of-state travel as project needs require

    Nice to Have
