    Description

Amazon"s Worldwide Grocery Stores - Growth & Development team is hiring for a Sr. Program Manager, Vendor Management position.

As a Sr. Program Manager for Vendor Management, you will set and enforce the financial terms that govern how we engage, compensate, and hold accountable the service providers who keep our stores running - and build the partnerships with those providers that set them up to succeed. You will run the RFPs that determine which vendors earn our business, negotiate the contracts that protect us when things do not go as planned, own the process that validates whether a vendor"s rate increase request is actually justified, and engage directly with service providers to understand their business and create the conditions for a win-win relationship.

Every time one of our vendors shows up at a Whole Foods Market or Daily Shop location, there is a contract behind that visit - defining the rates, the scope, and appropriate metrics to support the business. This role owns that contract infrastructure across 600+ grocery locations.

Here is what makes this role stand out:

    • You are the owner, not the approver. You do not route contracts to someone else to negotiate - you lead the negotiations, draft the terms, and own the outcomes across R&M vendor relationships for Whole Foods Market and Daily Shop locations.
    • Your work protects the business at scale. Every contract template you improve, every unjustified rate increase you reject, and every RFP you execute with rigor makes the entire vendor management system more defensible and more cost-efficient across a 600+ location portfolio.
    • You will see the spend, not just the invoices. This role comes with direct visibility into R&M vendor spend trends, trade-level cost drivers, and budget impact analysis - so your decisions are grounded in data, not just process.
    • You will improve and scale the frameworks, not just follow them. The RFP process documentation, the rate validation workflow, the contract compliance tracking system - these foundations exist and you will own them, sharpen them, and evolve them as the portfolio grows.
    • You sit at the center of legal, procurement, and operations. You will bring Indirect Procurement, Strategic Procurement, Legal, and Facilities Leadership to the table - and make sure every vendor decision has the right stakeholders aligned and moving at pace.
    • You build partnerships that deliver. Holding vendors accountable and setting them up to succeed are not competing goals - they are the same goal. You will engage directly with service providers, understand their business, and create the win-win conditions that make vendors want to perform. The strongest contracts are the foundation of strong partnerships, and you will build both.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Lead contract negotiations and manage the full RFP lifecycle for R&M trades.
    • Own the Rate Increase Validation Process - formalizing and strengthening the evaluation mechanism that ensures every vendor rate increase request is reviewed against consistent legitimacy criteria and market benchmarks.
    • Maintain 100% contract status visibility for all active R&M vendors - tracking expiration timelines, renewal requirements, and compliance across Corrigo.
    • Partner with Facilities Operations and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure preventive maintenance configurations in Corrigo align with contracted scopes of work, SLA requirements, and program standards.
    • Lead business reviews with Indirect Procurement and Facilities leadership - facilitating alignment on contract priorities, RFP activity, and vendor cost trends.
    • Own and continuously evolve the RFP Process framework, including timelines, Scope of Work (SOW) review with stakeholders, RFP Abstract templates, and the Vendor Management/Indirect Procurement stakeholder RACI.
    • Own portfolio-level spend analysis and vendor performance monitoring to identify cost-saving opportunities - bringing the contract compliance, rate benchmarking, and spend trend data that Indirect Procurement cannot fully replicate - and partnering with IP and Strategic Procurement to validate findings and drive action.

    A day in the life

Your morning might start with a vendor rate increase request - pulling spend trends and drafting a response that either validates the increase or documents why it does not hold up. From there, you partner with Indirect Procurement, tracking two active RFPs through the selection process and aligning on approval timelines. In the afternoon, a Facility Manager surfaces a contract scope gap - you know the contract well enough to bridge the conversation, and connect the right partners. On other days, you are learning about new programs or formats that require new service provider support and finding appropriate vendors to engage.

    About the team

We conduct almost 100 vendor business reviews per year, manage complex contracts across hundreds of service providers, and make sure store teams never have to worry about whether their vendor will show up and do the job they were contracted to do. We are a direct execution team: we do not advise on problems, we own and solve them.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here
