Senior Piping Designer
Location: Richmond, VA / Colonial Heights, VA area (Hybrid schedule available.)
Pay Range:$45.00 $55.00 per hour, with flexibility depending on experience (overtime eligible).

Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Piping Designer to support design and engineering services for industrial facilities across pharmaceutical, chemical, paper, pet care, and food sectors. This role is ideal for a highly experienced, self-sufficient designer who can take ownership of piping design from initial field data collection through final construction deliverables. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced consulting environment, work directly with clients, and deliver high-quality, fully coordinated piping designs.
Key Responsibilities
Perform field work including site surveys, measurements, and documentation of existing piping systems and equipment
Interface directly with clients to understand project scope, objectives, and requirements
Develop and maintain 3D piping models using AVEVA E3D (primary) and AutoCAD 3D as needed
Produce 2D piping drawings including P&IDs, orthographic drawings, isometrics, and pipe support details
Ensure designs meet applicable codes, standards, and client specifications
Coordinate piping design with multi-discipline teams including process, mechanical, structural, electrical, and civil
Participate in model reviews, clash detection, and quality checks
Provide construction support, respond to RFIs, and perform site visits throughout project lifecycle
Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality deliverables
Qualifications
10+ years of piping design experience in industrial process plants
Experience supporting pharmaceutical, chemical, food, pet care, or similar industries
Expert proficiency in AVEVA E3D or similar 3D piping design platforms (CADWorx, SmartPlant 3D -SP3D, AutoPlant, AutoCAD Plant 3D, PDMS, and others)
Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D and 3D
Experience performing field measurements and client-facing work independently
Thorough understanding of piping materials, specifications, supports, and constructability practices
Proven experience delivering complete piping design packages (3D models and 2D construction drawings)
Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced consulting environment
Preferred Qualifications
Associates degree or higher in Mechanical Design, Drafting Technology, or related field
Experience with AVEVA E3D administration or customization
Familiarity with laser scanning, point cloud integration, or brownfield revamp projects
Knowledge of industry standards such as ASME B31.3 or B31.1
Additional Details
Schedule: MondayFriday, 7:30 AM 4:30 PM
Full-time role with expectation of at least 40 hours per week
Overtime available based on project needs
Travel required for short-duration site visits
Work from Home: Hybrid available, but candidates must be able to work in the office and attend client sites in the Richmond area as needed
