- Executes Hazardous Waste Management Plan; determines appropriate storage methods, coordinates with certified disposal company to properly package and ship hazardous waste.
- Performs and manages hazardous waste activities to include collecting, segregating, and packaging as well as anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling exposure(s) to chemical and physical hazards. Performs inspections, training, and correction for hazardous material storage and spill prevention and readiness in support of the USU Chemical Hygiene Plan. Performs inspections of satellite accumulation areas to identify and evaluate conditions which may be hazardous to workers' health. Recommend measures to eliminate or control identified hazards.
- Partners with Industrial Hygiene staff in evaluating, revising and documenting the University's Hazardous Waste Management program for achieving and maintaining compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements. Prepares and submits local, state, and federally required reports regarding university hazardous waste activities. Write and review standard operating procedures and required program documents for hazardous waste management as necessary.
- Conducts audits of University's hazardous waste program. Coordinates work-site chemical exposure monitoring and employee medical surveillance, as appropriate. Investigates and analyzes accidents and/or incidents, identifies corrective actions, tracks implementation and reports results associated with chemical exposures.
- Develops, coordinates and presents hazardous waste and chemical hygiene related employee training presentations. Analyzes training needs. Develops and presents training specific to the audience in consideration of program operations, culture and hazards. Provides on the spot corrective actions and training as necessary and complete customer support to include assistance with hazardous chemical storage areas, satellite accumulation areas, spill management and other hazardous waste management requirements. Provide training for USU employees and visitors as required by the Hazardous Waste Management Plan and Chemical Hygiene Plan.
- Assist with industrial hygiene operations as required. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President of Environmental Health and Occupational Safety.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
