Job Summary

The Senior Network Analyst is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of the Universitys network infrastructure, including campus wireless, physical security, and access control systems. This position provides advanced technical troubleshooting, system administration, and operational support to ensure the reliability, availability, and security of network services. The Senior Network Analyst responds to service requests and incidents, collaborates with campus stakeholders to meet operational requirements, and participates in the planning, evaluation, and deployment of network technologies. Working closely with the Lamar University Police Department on physical security systems, this position serves as a key member of the Network Services team and provides support across all areas of campus network operations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Administer, maintain, and support the Universitys network infrastructure, including wired, wireless, and related network services.

  • Monitor network performance, investigate faults, and troubleshoot connectivity issues to ensure reliable and secure operations.

  • Support and maintain campus physical security and access control systems, including associated network-connected devices.

  • Implement firmware upgrades, patches, and configuration changes to maintain system performance, security, and compliance.

  • Respond to service requests, provide technical support, and collaborate with campus departments and stakeholders to resolve issues.

  • Assist with network planning, implementation, documentation, and reporting to support operational and strategic technology initiatives.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or relevant work experience may be substituted if combined with one industry recognized network certification.

  • One of more years of experience with infrastructure/enterprise systems and support, including but not limited to the following:

  • Routing: Static, VRRP, OSPF.

  • Switching: VLANs, VTP, Spanning-Tree, Virtual Chassis, LACP, WLAN.

  • Firewalls: Network segmentation, firewall policies, VPN.

  • DHCP and DNS network services.

  • Vendors: Juniper, Cisco, Ruckus Wireless, Dell, Fortinet, F5, Genetec.

  • Network Monitoring Tools: Nagios, LibreNMS, Graylog.

  • Security camera and access control systems and standards.

  • Current Lamar IT employee.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years of experience supporting enterprise infrastructure and network services.

  • Experience with security cameras systems, access control technologies, and enterprise wireless environments.

  • Relevant industry certifications preferred, such as CCNA, JNCIP-ENT, or JNCIA

  • Prior experience in higher education or K-12 environments is preferred.

Job Conditions: May be required to work in data centers, telecommunications closets, and other technical environments, with occasional after-hours support for maintenance activities and emergency network outages.
