About this Role
Sr. Mechanical Engineer, P.E.
(10+ Years Experience)
NorthStar Energy Services, a Quanta Services company, is seeking an experienced Sr. Mechanical Engineer, P.E. to join our Professional Engineering Consulting team in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This role supports EPC and engineering design projects for oil & gas, petrochemical, and data center clients.
The Sr. Mechanical Engineer for this position will be responsible for the development of mechanical and piping design of energy, midstream, petrochemical facilities and data centers. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will work closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team and independently to perform design development, equipment specifications, calculations, safety and code compliance as it pertains to the design of Energy Facilities.
What You'll Do
Engineering & Design
- Develop mechanical and piping designs for pipeline facilities, compressor stations, pump stations, tank terminals, and data center facilities. Ensure all work meets ASME standards, including ASME BPVC Sec. VIII Div. 1 and American Petroleum Institute practices and standard such as API 610, 618 & 682.
- Perform line sizing calculations, pipe support load analysis, and nozzle load stress evaluations in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
- Lead piping layout development and review PPFDs and P&IDs to ensure mechanical designs align with process and operational requirements.
- Specify rotating and fixed equipment including valves, pressure vessels, tanks, pumps, compressors, turbines, separators, and filtration systems.
- Other responsibilities include specialty item specifications and review of pipe specifications.
Deliverable Management & Coordination
- Coordinate mechanical deliverables with project team members across engineering disciplines.
- Prepare hourly cost and resource estimates for project bids.
- Interface as necessary with Company engineering and project management, drafting, procurement, as well as outside consultant engineering firms, inspection, and operations personnel.
- Review and integrate company standards, regulatory requirements, and site-specific data (including geotechnical reports) into mechanical designs.
- Perform QA/QC reviews of mechanical drawings, calculations, and technical documents.
- Occasional travel to the job site to meet with clients and construction personnel as necessary to scope projects and collect information for design.
- Routinely handle multiple projects simultaneously and effectively prioritize tasks.
What You'll Bring
Qualifications
- 10 years’ experience working with process engineers on mechanical equipment, updating P&ID's, sizing pumps, compressors, heat exchangers and pressure vessels.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Licensure of Professional Engineering in Louisiana/Texas
- Proven ability to interpret and apply applicable codes and standards including:
- ASME BPVC Section VIII
- ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8
- API 610, 674/675/676, 682
- API 520/521, API 620, API 650, API 12C
- Title 49 CFR Parts 190–199
- Experience working with process engineers on mechanical equipment
- Experience with Caesar II pipe stress a plus.
