Job Description: Our client is a growing manufacturer with a brand new executive team and real appetite for change. Their application portfolio was built over the last 10 to 15 years and it works, but it is sprawling and overdue for consolidation. They are moving data off on-prem SQL Server to Snowflake, they run Power BI across the business, and leadership wants AI in the hands of developers and executives rather than in a slide deck. They are hiring a hands-on leader to own that. You will run a small application development group plus two outside dev partners, set the architecture direction, and decide what gets consolidated, rebuilt, retired, or brought back in-house. This is a build role with a seat close to the top. If you want to point at a modernization and say you drove it, this is that job. What you will do Own application architecture across the portfolio and drive the consolidation strategy Lead a small internal development team and manage two third-party development vendors Stay in the code. Prototype, review designs, set standards, and prove out patterns the team can follow Put AI-assisted development into real practice so the team ships faster, not just differently Shape the AI architecture that makes company data usable for executives, alongside the data and analytics team Make the build, buy, and insource calls, and defend them to senior leadership Partner on the move from on-prem SQL Server to Snowflake and what gets built on top of it What we are looking for 5 or more years building production software, including time as an architect, lead, or manager Strong C# and .NET background, with real application architecture experience Experience modernizing, consolidating, or replatforming legacy applications Hands-on use of AI coding tools in a working environment, and a point of view on where they help and where they do not Comfortable presenting to VP and executive audiences and working without a detailed roadmap handed to you Able to work onsite in Glenview 4 days per week Nice to have Azure, Snowflake, Power BI, or Infor ERP exposure Python, TypeScript, React, REST APIs, SQL or PostgreSQL Experience managing outsourced development and bringing work back in-house Familiarity with MLOps, AIOps, or agentic tooling at enterprise scale Manufacturing or distribution environment experience Why people take this role Clear mandate and executive visibility, with a new CEO pushing for change You set the AI and modernization direction rather than inheriting someone else’s Long-tenured team that has not had outside exposure, so your influence lands fast Stable company, real budget, and a data platform project already in motion If you read this far, send me an email with the subject line "I read to the end"!
