Sr/Lead Java Developer - Capital One (Hybrid, Plano TX or McLean VA)
About the Role
Join Capital One's Consumer/Customer Entity team as a Sr/Lead Java Developer supporting a high-impact strategic initiative in customer verification technology. Drive the next phase of mission-critical business rules engine development within a collaborative, hybrid work environment. This is a hands-on backend engineering role with exciting opportunities to lead technical design, leverage cloud technologies, and work alongside top-tier product and engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Architect, design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and business applications using Java and Spring Boot
- Implement and optimize business rules and processes within a large-scale enterprise environment
- Build and deploy cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS services (Lambda, Fargate)
- Collaborate with product owners, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver customer verification solutions
- Accelerate delivery of Project Phoenix/Project Linux through new feature development and process improvement
- Manage application integration, performance tuning, automated testing, and secure deployments
- Utilize internal cloud platforms and AI-assisted development tools to boost productivity
- Lead technical design sessions and champion backend best practices
- Support frontend or secondary development activities as needed (approximately 30%)
Required Skills and Experience
- Extensive backend application development expertise in Java and Spring Boot
- Proven hands-on experience deploying applications in AWS environments
- Strong familiarity with AWS Lambda and Fargate
- Comprehensive knowledge of modern software development best practices and cloud-native architectures
- Ability to work onsite in a hybrid environment (3 days/week as needed)
- Immediate availability to start
Preferred Skills
- Prior experience at Capital One or in similar large-scale enterprise application settings
- Background with business rules engines or BPM applications
- Full-stack development exposure
- Experience with cloud developer platforms, internal tooling, or AI-powered engineering productivity tools
