ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Averro is seeking a Senior IT Operations Engineer for an optical technology company developing advanced photonic solutions for high-performance communications, data centers, and next-generation computing. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on designing, operating, securing, and automating hybrid cloud and enterprise IT infrastructure. You will build reliable, secure, observable, and highly automated IT operations across cloud, on-premises, and distributed environments, working across networking, compute, virtualization, containers, endpoints, identity, and security platforms. The company is especially interested in candidates who treat IT operations as an engineering discipline, using software, automation, infrastructure as code, and observability to reduce manual work, prevent incidents, and continuously improve systems.

•    Engineer, operate, and continuously improve hybrid cloud and on-premises infrastructure, including networks, servers, virtualization, containers, storage, and endpoint environments

•    Develop automation and orchestration for infrastructure provisioning, configuration, patching, maintenance, and operational workflows

•    Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management practices for consistent, repeatable, and secure operations

•    Build and maintain observability capabilities, including monitoring, logging, metrics, alerting, and automated incident detection and response

•    Implement and maintain infrastructure security controls, including identity and access management, endpoint protection, vulnerability management, and threat detection

•    Integrate and manage enterprise security and infrastructure platforms, including third-party monitoring, endpoint detection and response (EDR), and managed security services

•    Apply Site Reliability Engineering principles to improve availability, performance, resilience, and operational efficiency

•    Troubleshoot complex infrastructure and security issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventative improvements

•    Develop standardized operational tools, processes, and automation that can be applied across distributed sites and environments

•    Support the computing infrastructure behind specialized technical and production equipment, including reliability, security, backup, and lifecycle management

•    Collaborate with software engineers, security teams, vendors, and local IT personnel, and evaluate emerging technologies such as AI-assisted operations and intelligent automation

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

•    Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

•    5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, IT operations engineering, cloud engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or related disciplines

•    Strong hands-on experience with hybrid infrastructure, including on-premises systems and public cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure

•    Solid understanding of enterprise networking, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, and firewalls

•    Experience administering and troubleshooting Windows and Linux server environments, virtualization platforms, and enterprise endpoints

•    Proficiency in scripting or programming with Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages to automate operational tasks

•    Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent

•    Experience implementing and operating monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability solutions

•    Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles, including network security, identity and access management, endpoint security, vulnerability management, and incident response

•    Experience supporting production infrastructure, diagnosing complex issues, and implementing long-term reliability improvements

•    Strong problem-solving, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills

BONUS QUALIFICATIONS

•    Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration platforms

•    Experience with modern observability platforms such as Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Splunk, or equivalent

•    Experience integrating security platforms, including EDR/XDR, SIEM, vulnerability scanning, and managed detection and response services

•    Familiarity with zero-trust security principles, network segmentation, and modern identity management

•    Experience with CI/CD, GitOps, APIs, and software engineering practices applied to infrastructure operations

•    Experience implementing automated remediation, self-healing infrastructure, or AI-assisted IT operations (AIOps)

•    Familiarity with backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and infrastructure resilience practices

•    Experience supporting geographically distributed infrastructure or multi-site enterprise environments

•    Familiarity with semiconductor fabrication, advanced manufacturing, industrial automation, or other equipment-intensive environments (a plus, not a requirement)
