Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Sr. HIM Associate to serve as a key resource in coordinating Health Information Management (HIM) operations and ensuring medical records are accurate, current, and readily available. This position supports medical record processes, quality reviews, error identification, corrective and preventive action planning, data reporting, and workflow distribution. The ideal candidate brings strong HIM experience, technical proficiency, and the ability to make independent decisions in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Utilize electronic medical records, health information systems, and departmental applications with accuracy and precision
- Coordinate medical record activities, including retrieval, release, tracking, deficiencies, document management, corrections, forms management, and compliance
- Identify errors, determine root causes, develop corrective actions, and design preventive action plans using process and quality improvement tools
- Perform productivity and quality reviews, collect and report data, and assist with distributing team workloads
- Coordinate planned and unplanned downtime procedures and support operations during downtime and recovery
- Train new employees according to established orientation procedures and educate team members on new processes and changes
- Provide excellent customer service and communication while maintaining compliance with departmental and organizational standards
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma required
- Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of health information management, office, or healthcare experience
- Additional equivalent experience may substitute for required education on a one-to-one basis
- RHIT or RHIA certification preferred
- Strong working knowledge of electronic medical records, health information systems, and HIM processes and procedures
- Strong analytical thinking, independent decision-making, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to provide technical expertise and training to other team members
