Senior Fabric BI Data Engineer

Location: North Dallas, TX (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Fabric BI Data Engineer to support the modernization and expansion of our enterprise analytics platform. This role is responsible for designing, building, and optimizing backend data solutions that power reporting and analytics across the organization.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in SQL, data warehousing, data modeling, and ETL/ELT development, with the flexibility to collaborate across backend and frontend BI teams. While this is a backend-focused role, working knowledge of front-end BI tools is required to ensure strong end-to-end solutions.

This position supports our transition from on‑premise systems (SQL Server, SSIS) to a modern Azure-based analytics ecosystem, including Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure Data Factory, and Microsoft Fabric.

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Architecture

  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise data warehouse architecture
  • Build and manage fact and dimension tables using Kimball methodology
  • Develop, optimize, and support ETL/ELT pipelines using SSIS, Azure Data Factory, and Microsoft Fabric
  • Optimize backend system performance and troubleshoot complex SQL and data issues
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, governance, and security across all solutions
  • Identify and resolve data quality issues in partnership with technical and business teams

Business Intelligence Enablement

  • Translate business requirements into scalable data models and reporting structures
  • Collaborate with frontend BI developers to ensure backend structures support reporting and analytics needs
  • Maintain working knowledge of Power BI, Tableau, DAX, and Power Query (M) to support design alignment and troubleshooting

Collaboration & Ownership

  • Gather and refine requirements in ambiguous and evolving environments
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Take ownership of solutions end-to-end, from data ingestion through final delivery
  • Proactively expand knowledge of tools and platforms beyond assigned priorities

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in business intelligence, data engineering, or data warehousing
  • Advanced expertise in SQL, including stored procedures, functions, and performance optimization
  • Strong experience with data warehouse architecture and dimensional data modeling
  • Proven experience using SSIS, Azure Data Factory, and/or Microsoft Fabric
  • Hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and on‑prem SQL Server
  • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data processing order of operations
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Azure DevOps, and modern cloud data practices
  • High attention to data quality, governance, security, and system performance
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced environments
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Ownership-driven and service-oriented mindset

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, or Databricks
  • Knowledge of Azure Data Lake
  • Experience implementing API-based data integrations
  • Familiarity with D365 Finance and Operations data
  • Advanced experience with DAX, Power Query (M), and complex T-SQL
