Teslas Power Electronics team is hiring a Sr. Electrical Engineer to work on the Optimus charger program.

You will be part of the Power Electronics group - the same team that designs power conversion hardware across Teslas automotive and energy products - and will apply that expertise to developing charger systems for Teslas Optimus humanoid robot.

This is a high-impact role where you will own the full hardware development lifecycle from architecture through production in a fast-paced environment where requirements evolve rapidly.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect, design, build, and industrialize power converter hardware for Optimus charger systems from specification through prototype, reliability validation, and production.
  • Own start-to-finish circuit development, architecture development, requirement definition, design execution, simulation, schematic capture, and board layout.
  • Develop and optimize advanced power electronics topologies for charger applications, including AC/DC rectifiers, DC/DC converters, and battery charging circuits.
  • Perform circuit modeling, component selection, PCB layout, prototyping, and hardware validation.
  • Design PCB layouts optimized for reduced parasitic inductance and capacitance in high-power charging circuits.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with firmware, mechanical, robotics, controls, systems, manufacturing, and reliability teams.
  • Debug complex hardware interactions across electrical, firmware, and mechanical domains.
  • Document design requirements, calculations, simulation results, and validation data.
  • Iterate rapidly as charger and robot platform requirements evolve.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 4 years of hands-on power converter design and industrialization experience.
  • Strong understanding of power conversion topologies - both theory and practical design - including DC/AC inverters, DC/DC converters, and battery-powered circuits.
  • Experience with high voltage power semiconductor selection (IGBTs, Si/SiC/GaN MOSFETs, and Diodes), design of gate drive and analog/digital sensing circuits.
  • Advanced analog and digital circuit design skills.
  • Experience in PCB layout for minimal stray inductance/capacitance, component placement strategies for better manufacturability, power/signal plane definition, and EMC optimization.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools such as LTSpice, PLECS, or ANSYS-Maxwell.
  • Proficiency with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, electronic loads, and power analyzers.
  • Familiarity with control theory and embedded programming for power electronics.

Benefits: Along with competitive pay as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire:

  • Medical plans: Plan options with 0 payroll deduction.
  • Family-building: Fertility, adoption, and surrogacy benefits.
  • Dental: Including orthodontic coverage.
  • Vision: Plans both have options with a 0 paycheck contribution.
  • Company Paid Health Savings Accounts (HSA): Contribution when enrolled in the High-Deductible medical plan with HSA.
  • Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).
  • 401k with employer match.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plans and other financial benefits.
  • Company paid Basic Life, AD&D, Short-term and long-term disability insurance (90 day waiting period).
  • Employee Assistance Program.
  • Sick and Vacation time.
  • Flex time for salary positions; Accrued hours for Hourly positions and Paid Holidays.
  • Back-up childcare and parenting support resources.
  • Voluntary benefits to include critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance.
  • Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs.
  • Tesla Babies program.
  • Commuter benefits.
  • Employee discounts and perks program.

Expected Compensation: $104,000 - $288,000 annual salary, cash, and stock awards.

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
