Amazon is seeking a motivated, data-driven Sr. Category Manager to support Americas data center expansion and infrastructure development within the Energy Infrastructure and Projects portfolio. In this role, you will own end-to-end sourcing strategies for natural gas procurement categories-collaborating with internal business partners, engineering teams, and suppliers to drive efficiencies, reduce risks, and optimize costs at scale.

You will develop mechanisms and metrics to ensure supplier accountability for performance and delivery, leveraging competitive bidding, strategic negotiations, and comprehensive analysis of data and market trends to deliver measurable results for your category.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute end-to-end category strategies for natural gas infrastructure procurement-including gas molecules, pipeline systems, power generation equipment (prime and back-up), and associated balance-of-plant scope for data centers
  • Lead complex, multi-stakeholder negotiations for long-term supply agreements, EPC contracts, and O&M service arrangements across OEMs, turnkey service providers, and EPC contractors
  • Build and manage strategic supplier relationships; develop performance mechanisms, scorecards, and accountability frameworks to ensure delivery commitments are met
  • Conduct market analysis and competitive benchmarking to identify cost reduction opportunities, supply risks, and emerging technologies within the natural gas value chain
  • Drive large-scale supply chain and procurement process improvements, establishing programmatic frameworks to scale operations and deliver measurable outcomes
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, legal, finance, and operations teams to align procurement strategies with business objectives and customer timelines
  • Manage multiple competing priorities while consistently delivering on-time results within committed timeframes

Required Qualifications

  • Natural Gas Industry Experience
  • Natural Gas Trading & Market Dynamics - Demonstrated experience in natural gas trading operations, pricing mechanisms, market fundamentals, and commodity risk management
  • Pipeline Infrastructure & EPC - Deep knowledge of pipeline engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) scopes, including commercial frameworks, contract structures, and negotiation of large-scale infrastructure agreements
  • Operations & Maintenance (O&M) - Familiarity with O&M contracting models, performance guarantees, and lifecycle cost management for gas infrastructure assets
  • Upstream & Value Chain Expertise - Understanding of natural gas extraction, production, processing, gathering, and transportation processes across the full value chain
  • Long Lead Equipment Procurement - Proven experience sourcing and managing suppliers for capital-intensive equipment such as gas turbines, natural gas reciprocating engines/generators, and associated balance-of-plant systems
  • Supplier Management - Track record of managing complex supplier portfolios including OEMs, turnkey service providers, and refurbishers/resellers

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
