    Engines & Power Systems provides the propulsion, auxiliary power and electrical systems that keep aircraft flying. With engines across roughly 120 aircraft types and more than 47,000 APUs in service today, we support operators across commercial and defense markets - backed by an aftermarket network built for the long service life of every platform we power

    The Engines & Power Systems (E&PS) Propulsion Controls team develops and sustains the full engine control system-from requirements definition through system integration, verification, certification, and field support. As a Senior Advance Systems Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across the complete systems lifecycle for propulsion control system development supporting Honeywell turbofan, turboshaft, and APU programs.

    This role requires deep systems engineering expertise, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to influence architecture, requirements, and verification strategies across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

    Key Responsibilities

    Systems Engineering & Architecture

    • Lead requirements development, decomposition, and validation activities for engine control systems.
    • Collaborate with Systems Architecture and Propulsion Controls leadership to define and refine system architecture, interfaces, and performance requirements.
    • Ensure traceability from user‑level requirements through subsystem and component specifications.

    Controls Engineering Execution

    • Partner with Controls Senior Manager and Propulsion Control Systems leadership to execute software, hardware, and control system development activities.
    • Support controls law development, environmental characterization, interface control documentation, and integration planning.

    Verification, Validation & Certification

    • Develop and maintain system verification plans, system‑level test plans, and certification strategies.
    • Support test execution, integration rig activities, and qualification campaigns for safety‑critical control systems.
    • Track verification progress and support compliance with airworthiness, safety, reliability, and maintainability requirements.

    Technical Leadership & Collaboration

    • Provide technical guidance to cross‑functional teams including turbomachinery, software, hardware, systems integration, and test engineering.
    • Drive technical reviews, configuration management alignment, and participation in product assurance processes led by Product Chief Engineers and Functional Chiefs.
    • Collaborate with external and internal customers, suppliers, and program leadership.

    Program Execution

    • Support planning, risk management, and execution of engineering activities in alignment with program schedule, budget, and E&PS process requirements.
    • Prepare and present engineering status, issues, and recommendations to program and functional leadership.

    Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status.

    YOU MUST HAVE

    • 7+ years of experience in systems engineering for safety‑critical aerospace systems (controls preferred).
    • Strong background in requirements management, system integration, and verification strategies.
    • Familiarity with propulsion systems, engine control systems, or embedded control systems.
    • Demonstrated experience working across multidisciplinary teams in a structured engineering process environment.

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.

    Experience with turbofan/turboshaft or APU engine programs.

    • Knowledge of airworthiness certification processes.
    • Proficiency with model‑based systems engineering tools and methodology.
    • Experience in control systems analysis, software assurance, or hardware assurance.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions and mentor junior engineers.

    The first autopilot in 1914, Charles Lindbergh’s first successful solo flight across the Atlantic in 1927, Amelia Earhart’s landmark flight in 1932, and the world’s first sonic boom in 1947, were all made possible because of aviation technology developed by Honeywell and its legacy companies.

    During World War II, the groundbreaking cabin pressurization system developed by Garrett, Honeywell’s integrated C-1 autopilot, and the Norden bombsight made high-altitude bombing first feasible. Sperry instruments and navigation gear, Bendix electronics, carburetors, wheels, and brakes, and Grimes lighting systems were widely used on World War II aircraft. These innovations were later implemented successfully in civilian aircraft, helping the post-war boom in passenger travel.

    In the 1950’s, Honeywell Aerospace and its legacy companies changed the face of flying with the development of the first gas-turbine engines and the ring laser gyroscope, which dramatically changed guidance and navigation forever. Sperry brought computer technology to the cockpit with electronic flight instrument systems, flight management systems and other digital technology, and Bendix introduced the first commercial weather radar system.Today, Honeywell Aerospace continues to innovate in the frontier of flight safety with traffic alert and collision avoidance technologies, the AlliedSignal Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System, and systems that help pilots avoid severe weather and hazards such as lightning and wind shear.
