Part-Time Senior Accounting Technician
Schedule: Part-time, 5 hours per day, 3 days per week
$32/hr.
Location: Costa Mesa
Focus: Accounting support for retirement-related projects involving the
California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS) and the
California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS).
Job Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented
Senior Accounting Technician to provide part-time accounting support. This person will help with invoices, payments, accounts receivable, budgets, account records, and financial reports.
Main Duties
- Review and process vendor invoices and payments.
- Check invoices for correct amounts, codes, and supporting documents.
- Research and fix payment or accounting errors.
- Review payments before they are sent out.
- Maintain accounts receivable and general ledger records.
- Prepare invoices and billing documents.
- Track unpaid accounts and follow up as needed.
- Receive, record, and deposit checks and cash.
- Reconcile bank and account balances.
- Review budgets and track spending.
- Check budget and account codes for accuracy.
- Track income and expenses for contracts and projects.
- Prepare financial, budget, and other reports.
- Help with year-end accounting tasks.
- Keep accounting records organized and secure.
- Answer questions from staff, vendors, and others.
- Follow accounting rules, company policies, and deadlines.
Requirements
- Associate degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or a related field and 4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, budgeting, or other accounting work.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Good math and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to review financial records and find errors.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to handle private financial information.
Work Environment
This is primarily an office position with regular computer and desk work. The role may require sitting for long periods, reading financial documents, using office equipment, and working with staff and vendors.
