    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    TITLE: School Psychologist

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master's degree in school psychology from an accredited college or university
    • New Mexico Public Education Department License in School Psychology

    OVERVIEW OF JOB DESCRIPTION: To apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth with special needs succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Follow local, state and federal law and adhere to Public Education Department and Local School Board Policy.
    • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
    • Perform appropriate evaluations of children referred for school psychology.
    • Provide individual and/or group therapy to students.
    • Help students cope with stress and understand themselves and their special needs.
    • Help students develop and maintain a positive self-concept, become responsible, and get along with others.
    • Follow all Technical Evaluation and Assessment Manual (TEAM) guidelines and
    • Work together with school personnel to identify suitable programs and services for students with special needs.
    • Perform other relevant tasks as assigned.

    REPORTS TO: Principal and Special Services Administrators

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year will be in accordance with current schedule for 191-day employees. Work day is an eight-hour day. Salary determined by individual training and experience level on current Certified Support Staff Salary Schedule.

    EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on evaluation of certified personnel.

    PHYSICAL LEVEL RATING: This position will require the employee to function at a "medium" physical capacity as defined by Workman's Compensation statutes. "Medium" physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.
