    Description

    Position Summary: Diagnose, treat, and manage injuries to the musculoskeletal system and underlying conditions that can affect physical performance. Be able to educate athletes and non-athletes about injury prevention, nutrition and safe exercise practices.

    Critical Tasks:

    • Obtains necessary health and developmental history from patient or legal guardian; records findings, assessment/evaluation of condition in medical records
    • Performs a complete history and physical examination of patient and presents the plan of care to the patient
    • Collects, assists, and interpret reports from diagnostic and laboratory tests, radiographic procedures and clinical studies
    • Determines tentative diagnosis, orders tests and/or prescribes medication, provides medical treatment, or provides treatment recommendations based on diagnosis and plan of care in agreement with patient.
    • Provides counsel to patient and when necessary family on the diagnosed disease process
    • Performs various therapeutic and minor surgical procedures including, but not limited to: suturing minor wounds, ordering splints and casts, joint injections, and trigger point injections. Supervising the registered Orthopedics Technicians (ROT) in application and removal of casts and splinting.
    • Provides follow up care to patients; assists in referral to various internal and external facilities
    • Advises patients concerning diet, hygiene, normal growth and development and methods for prevention of orthopedics and sports medicine related disease
    • Provides recommendations and/or referrals for rehabilitative services for orthopedics and sports medicine related diseases
    • Maintains knowledge and proficiency in medical practices through continuing education, staff meetings and workshop participation
    • Participates in departmental orientation, on the job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives
    • Participates in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skills and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor
    • Works with the primary care team and other specialties to develop and implement a comprehensive care plan for the patient.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Master of Science Physician Assistant Studies as ac ertified PA or in Nursing(MSN) as a Family Nurse Practitioner
    • Completion of an Accredited Physician Assistant Program or Accredited Nurse Practitioner Program with an applicable accredited Family nurse practitioner degree
    • Current, unrestricted and valid State of Arizona license to practice as a Physician Assistant from the AZ State Board of Medical Examiners or as a Nurse Practitioner from the Arizona State Board of Nursing. If licensed in other states, must possess such Arizona license within one (1) year of hire
    • 1-year experience in Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, or a year of clinical practice with an emphasis on musculoskeletal conditions preferred.
    • Current or eligible for Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) licensure or ability to obtain upon hire.
    • Current BLS (CPR) certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
    • Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures.
