JOB SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, a Speech Language Pathologist will be responsible for screening, evaluation, development, and implementation of speech language- related provisions of the educational programs for students identified as eligible for these services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Administer and/or evaluate hearing or speech and language test results, barium swallow results, or medical or background information to diagnose and plan treatment.

2. Provide augmentative and alternative communication (ACC) systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder or progressive neurological disorders.

3. Provide direct and consultative therapeutic services related to expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language.
4. Compile results into comprehensive written reports which reflect strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment.

5. Develop and/or implement speech language-based intervention plans for student needs and evaluation results such as stuttering, delayed language, swallowing disorders, or inappropriate pitch or harsh voice problems.

6. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans (IEP) and intervention plans to achieve student goals.

7. Provide targeted, evidence based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and performance within the school environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Union County Public Schools Job Description

1. Accurately maintain records as required by state or federal laws, and Union County Board of Education policies, and/or school-based requests, and adhere to confidentiality requirements of state and federal law.
2. Monitor and re-assess the effects of speech language intervention and the need to continue, modify, or discontinue intervention.
3. Teach, monitor, and collaborate with educational personnel, parents, and students to increase understanding of the student's therapy program.
4. Document therapy services, clinical and administrative, to ensure accountability of service provision and to meet standards for reimbursement of services, as appropriate.
5. Develop individual or group activities, or programs, in schools to deal with behavior, speech, language, or swallowing problems.
6. Provide communication instruction to dialect speakers or students with limited English proficiency.
7. Provide legal and ethical supervision of speech language pathology assistants, assuming responsibility for the students served by the assistant.
8. Provide fieldwork education and supervision for speech language therapy and speech language assistants, as needed.
9. Participate in meetings at the department, school, district, and/or parent/teacher conferences.
10. Provide for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning. 11 Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES JOB KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for career counseling and guidance. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exert force 10-25 lbs., frequently, and push up to 50 lbs., occasionally, or a negligible amount of force to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
