    Professional - Job Description

    Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist Salary: PA 6 Min $73,083/Mid $88,052/Max $103,020

    Reports To: Director of Special Education FLSA Status: Exempt

    Dept./School: Special Education Department Minimum Duty Days: 207 days

    Primary Purpose: Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech/language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Provide direct/indirect therapy to students with speech, voice, or language disorders. Assess students with speech or language disorders and determine eligibility for services. Provide therapeutic, intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with students' ability to derive full benefit from the educational program. Supervise speech assistants.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Master's Degree from an accredited institution
    • Valid License in Speech-Language Pathology
    • License issued by the State Board of Examiners for Spee ch-Language Pathology and Audiology

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    • Skills in the use of tests and measurements for asse ssing speech-language disorders.
    • Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of monolingual and bilingual speech, language, and hearing disorders.
    • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to travel to multiple work locations as assigned.
    • Ability to use Word, Excel, internet, email, assessment software and web-based systems.
    • Attain knowledge of assistive technology services and/or devices in relation to speech.
    • Language and hearing disorders.

    Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional Management

    1. Assesses students with speech or language disorder s and determine eligibility for services.

    2. Plans and provides appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech/language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

    3. Participates in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee regarding interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with speech and/or language disorders according to district procedures.

    4. Prepares the SLP Assistant to represent Special Education at an ARD Meeting by: a. Providing written approval for SLP Assistant to represent Special Education at an ARD b. Reviewing goals and objectives with parent prior to ARD where SLP Assistant represents SLP c. Notifying parent that SLP Assistant will represent SLP at an ARD meeting d. Rescheduling a tabled ARD where an SLP Assist ant represented the SLP.

    6. Counsels and involves parents in the remedial process.

    7. Collaborates with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom-based activities to improve oral and written language skills of students.

    8. Collaborates with classroom teachers to include appropriate TEKS in speech goals .

    9. Provides staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel in the identification and understanding of students with communication deficits.

    10. Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents required.

    11. Ensures that services are provided as indicated by the IEP.

    12. Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy.

    1. Assesses and responds to needs related to job responsibilities.
    2. Develops and coordinates a continuing evaluation of the speech therapy program and implement changes based on the findings.
    3. Assists in the selection of materials, equipment, and other instructional material.
    4. Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
    5. Establishes controls and administers discipline according to board policies and administrative regulations.

    School/Community Services

    1. Articulates the district's mission and goals in the area of speech therapy to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
    2. Demonstrates awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.
    3. Demonstrates the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.

    Personnel Management

    1. Supervises Speech Clerk.
    2. Performs other duties as may be assigned by campus and district level administration.
