Job Description
Butterfly Grove School is a premier independent school dedicated exclusively to the education and empowerment of students on the autism spectrum. The Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant provides direct student interaction, material preparation, and administrative support.Because we are a small school, flexibility and a passion for working across multiple grade levels are essential. The SLPA serves as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, supporting students through direct therapy, classroom collaboration, and family consultation. Services may be delivered individually, in small groups, or through push-in support within the classroom, with a focus on building functional communication skills (using total communication) that generalize across the school day.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties include:
· Conduct speech and language therapy sessions based on student goals, using plans developed by the supervising SLP.
· Work with students one-on-one, in small groups, or push into classrooms to support inclusive learning.
· Manage student behavior during sessions using positive reinforcement and school-wide behavior strategies.
· Coordinate with classroom teachers to ensure speech goals align with academic success.
· Prepare, maintain, and adapt therapy materials, visual schedules, and assistive technology (AAC) devices.
· Participate in staff meetings and professional development tailored to our small school environment.
· Regularly meet with the Director(s) and classroom teachers to discuss student progress, share strategies, and align goals between therapy and the classroom
· Actively participate in team meetings, contributing expertise on speech and language development and functional communication
· Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues using tact, patience, and courtesy
· Maintain accurate, daily treatment notes and log student progress data.
· Assist the SLP with assessments without interpretation.
· Perform clerical duties such as scheduling, record-keeping, and preparing compliance paperwork.
· Contribute to shared learning conversations with the teaching team on communication strategies and student language needs, and serve as an available resource on communication-related observations and insights as part of ongoing team collaboration
· Cooperate in school-wide supervision of students during, off campus, out-of-classroom activities
· Perform related duties as assigned
· Adhere to the Code of Ethics established by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
· Ensure C-SLPA licensure with the California Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology Board remains current and in good standing
· Serve as a strong advocate for students with communication needs, promoting an inclusive and language-accessible learning environment
· Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices and evidence-based interventions in school-based speech and language therapy
· Work independently under general supervision, applying sound judgment in interpreting and implementing individualized student plans

Skills and Requirements
· Education: Associate's degree from an SLPA program, or a Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders.
· Licensure: Valid state SLPA licensure or registration (or eligibility to obtain it prior to start date).
· Experience: Previous experience working with children in an educational or clinical setting is highly preferred.
· Prior experience in a Non-Public or Independent School serving neurodiverse students is highly preferred
· Deep, nuanced understanding of the autism spectrum, including communication differences, sensory processing, and behavioral support
· Knowledge of speech and language needs across a range of disability profiles
· Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems
· Knowledge of integrated practices in a school setting
· Knowledge of data collection for speech and language
