About the service

Our Speech and Language Therapy team sits within North Yorkshire's SEND and Inclusion services. The work is varied, hands‑on, and rooted in real‑world impact. You'll find us involved in:

  • Targeted mainstream provisions, helping schools spot needs early and build confidence in supporting them
  • Personalised learning colleges, where young people with more complex needs are preparing for adulthood
  • No Wrong Door, supporting young people who may have experienced trauma or instability
  • Youth justice services, where communication needs are often hidden but hugely significant

It's practical, collaborative support that makes a real difference to how children are understood and included.

What sets our service apart is the mix of settings, the flexibility in how we work, and the belief that everyone in the team brings something valuable. You'll be supported, but you'll also have space to grow and shape your role.

  • Support therapists with assessments, intervention plans, and resources
  • Help staff in schools embed communication‑friendly approaches into everyday practice
  • Work in settings where communication needs can be complex with support from the wider team
  • Build strong relationships with education colleagues and become a trusted link for your local area
  • Develop your understanding of a wide range of communication needs, from speech sounds to social communication to SEMH‑linked needs

  • Enjoy working with children and young people
  • Are comfortable with variety and challenge
  • Can think independently and adapt to different situations
  • Are reflective, open‑minded, and keen to learn
  • Want to be part of a team that's growing and changing
