    Position Details

    Position: Speech and Language Pathologist

    Location: Lamphere Schools/Lamphere Center

    Available: ASAP

    Salary: at the appropriate step on the teacher salary schedule

    Plus $7,500 annual stipend for full FTE at Lamphere Center (prorated if secondary building assignment)

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Masters degree, major in speech-language pathology
    • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with SB (Speech and Language Impairment)
    • Endorsement or ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology
    • Experience with developmentally disabled students desirable
    • Knowledge/experience with alternative communication systems, related techniques and equipment
    • Knowledge of Michigan and Federal Special Education laws
    • Proficiency in Google Suite applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, etc.) and online sourcing tools with functional knowledge of internet search platforms
    • Ability to withstand the strain of teaching
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable

    Responsibilities:

    • Provides direct service to secondary level students with significant developmental disabilities as well as behavioral and/or medical concerns.
    • Assesses communication skills using appropriate standardized tests in formal and informal settings
    • Provides consultative service to instructional staff
    • Interprets impressions and makes recommendations to parents
    • Plans and helps implement individual student communication system/systems
    • Participates as a member of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and IEP team
    • Support communication across all building settings
    • Ensure student safety and safety of others by implementing only approved Positive Behavior Support methods and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention techniques to address behavioral issues as required
    • Provide service and maintain records including Medicaid billing according to compliance standards established for the district, state and federal rules, regulations and procedures
    • Coordinate necessary meetings and paperwork including METs and IEPs for caseload students, ensure accommodations are complied with and all timelines are attained
    • Maintain regular, positive communication with parents and Lamphere Center staff regarding caseload students
    • Participate in a transdisciplinary service delivery model with classroom teaching staff, related service providers; such as Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Psychologist, and School Social Workers
    • Continue professional development through membership in organizations, conference and workshop attendance, and/or university course work
    • Such alternatives to the above responsibilities as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable

    This position is classified as Exempt

    Employment is contingent upon disclosure in accordance with PA-189.

    Ability to withstand the strains and successfully manage the responsibilities of the position.

    Must demonstrate reliability and punctuality, with a strong record of consistent attendance. Regular and dependable presence during school hours is essential.
