Requirements:

  • Minimum of Master's Degree in Speech and Language with required successful school internship and/or student teaching
  • Hold and Maintain current licensure in Speech and Language Pathology in the State of Indiana
  • Hold and Maintain registration with Indiana Professional License Agency
  • Willingness to supervise up to two Speech Assistants and Associates
  • Possess a basic knowledge of special education laws and regulations and can follow developed procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following:

  • All Teacher of Record duties as listed in the Teacher of Record (TOR) Job Description as the Speech and Language Pathologist is also the TOR for language or speech impaired students.
  • Diagnoses, evaluates and reports speech and language skills as related to the general education curriculum.
  • Plans, schedules, directs and conducts treatment programs for individuals with language and/or speech impairments.
  • Maintains all student records required by law, policies and administrative procedures.
  • Reviews individual files obtaining background information prior to evaluation to determine appropriate tests and ensures that information is available.
  • Appropriately administers scores and interprets specialized speech and language assessments.
  • Utilizes research to aid in identifying appropriate techniques and services to meet student needs.
  • For students being considered for only speech services, the Speech and Language Pathologist will act as the Case Manager. In this role they serve in a leadership role for articulation, fluency and voice cases:
  • to facilitate the referral process,
  • complete the record review,
  • initiate interventions,
  • complete appropriate evaluations,
  • consider services and
  • collaborates with the CCC members on decisions about the student.
  • Participates on intervention team(s) for at risk language students considered for an evaluation. Involvement in interventions will be as follows:
  • No involvement at Tier 1.
  • No involvement in initial RTI meetings.
  • As a student nears the end of Tier 2 and is moving to Tier 3, attend the meeting if you are case manager in the building.
  • Fully participate in Tier 3 meetings. Provide input on data analysis and assist with identifying next steps.
  • Consults with the TOR on the development of the individualized educational plans for students when speech and/or language are related services.
  • Provides students with strategies necessary for generalization of learned skills to promote independent monitoring of communication.
  • Conducts and participates in case conferences to review diagnostic information and student progress.
  • Supervises and evaluates assistants and/or associates to assure speech and language services are provided in an appropriate manner.
  • Understands and implements the use of assistive technology with students and consults with other staff as needed.
  • Provides ongoing professional development activities for school and community when requested.
  • Attends speech and language staff meetings with NISEC Coordinator and monthly district staff meetings with District Director of home district where office is located.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
