    Job Title: Specimen Technician I

    Location: Irving, TX
    Shift: Monday to Friday | 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM CST
    Duration: 4+ Months Contract (Possibility of Extension)

    Job Summary

    We are seeking a detail-oriented Specimen Technician I to join our Specimen Processing team in Irving, TX. This role is responsible for performing a variety of specimen processing and data entry functions within a fast-paced laboratory environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently while maintaining quality and compliance standards.

    This position plays a critical role in ensuring customer satisfaction by accurately processing laboratory specimens and supporting daily operational requirements. Flexibility is essential, as procedures and compliance regulations may change frequently.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Perform general specimen processing duties, including:
      • Presorting specimens
      • A-station processing
      • Pickup and delivery of specimens to the laboratory
      • Imaging/microfilming
      • Centrifugation
      • Aliquoting specimens
    • Accurately perform high-volume data entry while maintaining quality standards.
    • Learn and understand various specimen types and corresponding laboratory tests.
    • Follow laboratory compliance regulations and test-ordering requirements.
    • Maintain productivity and quality standards in a production-focused environment.
    • Practice proper safety procedures while working in a biohazard environment.
    • Keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with company policies.
    • Communicate effectively with team members and management.
    • Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in response to changing priorities and customer requirements.
    • Support departmental goals and completion timelines.

    Required Qualifications

    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.

    Skills & Knowledge

    • Strong data entry skills with the ability to achieve 6,000+ alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
    • Basic computer proficiency.
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Knowledge of laboratory testing and specimen processing.
    • Medical terminology knowledge applicable to a clinical laboratory.
    • Previous laboratory or healthcare experience.
    • Previous hospital laboratory experience.
    • Experience working in a high-volume production environment.

    Work Environment

    • Fast-paced laboratory production environment with an emphasis on productivity, quality standards, and turnaround times.
    • Exposure to biohazard materials; adherence to safety protocols is required.
    • Flexibility to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and on-call shifts based on business needs.
