    Position: Specimen Technician I 
    Location: Pittsburgh, PA
    Duration: 3+ month of Contract, End Date: November 30, 2026
    Shift: 3rd shift 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM EST; shifts may vary (40 hrs/ Week)

    Job Summary:

    The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) performs general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. The role requires strong data-entry skills, attention to detail, organization, accuracy, and the ability to work efficiently in a production environment.

    Responsibilities may include:

    • Performing A-station and presort activities.
    • Picking up and delivering processed specimens to the laboratory.
    • Imaging and microfilming.
    • Centrifuging and aliquoting specimens.
    • Accurately entering approximately 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
    • Learning and identifying specimen types associated with ordered laboratory tests.
    • Following test-ordering compliance requirements and adapting to frequent regulatory changes.
    • Meeting departmental productivity, quality, and completion-time standards.
    • Maintaining a clean and organized work area.
    • Following biohazard, safety, compliance, and departmental policies.
    • Communicating effectively with staff at all levels.
    • Providing flexibility to meet changing customer and departmental demands.

    Qualifications:-

    Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.

    Experience:

    • No prior experience required.
    • Previous laboratory or clinical laboratory experience preferred.
    • Medical background and knowledge of applicable medical terminology preferred.
    • Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus.
    • Production-environment experience preferred.

    Knowledge & Skills:

    • Basic computer knowledge required.
    • Strong data-entry skills.
    • Ability to learn laboratory specimen types and testing requirements.
    • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
    • High attention to accuracy and quality.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to adapt quickly to changing procedures and priorities.
