    Bachelor's Degree in related field. Master's Degree preferred. Three years of relevant specialist experience or experience in a related field. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are required. Experience in higher education and specialized work is desirable. Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) is preferred, along with one (1) to two (2) years of clinical experience. Experience in women's health, primary care, ambulatory care, or community health settings is preferred, as is experience with state-funded programs such as Healthy Texas Women and the Family Planning Program. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is also preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

    Nature & Purpose of Position

    Performs highly advanced and complex specialist duties for Primary Care and Clinical Medicine.

    This is a full-time, temporary, benefits-eligible, grant-funded position expected to end on or before 07/01/2028. Continuation of the position is contingent upon continued funding.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Serves as a key member of the Mobile Health Unit (MHU) team, supporting clinical operations through patient intake, clinical assistance, and coordination of care activities. Assists healthcare providers in delivering primary and preventive services in a mobile clinical setting and ensures efficient, safe, and compliant patient care and coordination of billing for provided services. Performs patient intake, including obtaining medical histories, documenting chief complaints, and collecting vital signs. Assists providers during examinations, treatments, and minor procedures within scope of practice. Performs point-of-care testing in accordance with established protocols. Prepares patients for examination and ensure readiness of clinical areas. Assists with administration of medications and immunizations as delegated and permitted. Supports daily clinic operations to ensure efficient patient flow and throughput. Prepares, cleans, disinfects, and restocks examination areas and equipment. Maintains inventory of clinical supplies and assists with supply management. Ensures proper setup, breakdown, and organization of the mobile clinical environment. Accurately documents patient information in the electronic health record (EHR). Assists with scheduling, referrals, and follow-up coordination as directed. Provides basic patient education and reinforce provider instructions. Maintains confidentiality of patient information in compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Prepares and submits claims for Medicaid and state-funded programs according to current program rules. Reviews and resolves any claim denials. Adheres to infection control standards, safety protocols, and clinical policies. Ensures compliance with institutional procedures and grant-related requirements. Participates in required training, quality improvement, and program evaluation activities. Supports clinical teaching activities involving students under supervision, as appropriate. Assists with community outreach events, screenings, and mobile clinic activities as needed. Supports patient engagement efforts in community-based settings. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Other Specifications

    Knowledge of clinical procedures and patient care practices within the Medical Assistant scope. Ability to perform point-of-care testing and basic clinical tasks accurately. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow regulatory requirements and to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to adapt to changing environments and mobile service delivery settings.

    Work originates from Conroe, Texas, and is usually performed in a mobile clinical unit and community-based environments. Requires frequent travel to multiple service locations. Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting clinical supplies and equipment. May require flexible scheduling, including occasional evenings/weekends or outreach events.
