Job Description Summary

GE Vernova Research-Energy Research is looking for a Solid Oxide fuel cell testing engineer with capabilities in instrumentation and controls, test build, and operation. As a Specialist, you will be supporting research and development and manufacturing of materials processes for a broad range of projects. You will be responsible for the design, set up, operation and trouble shoot of electrical or mechanical systems for energy storage and conversion devices, including high temperature solid oxide fuel cells, electroplating, chemical processing, formulation of functional material compositions, scale-up, material characterization, and system integration and testing. This role will have exciting opportunities to help define and develop sustainable solutions to the biggest challenges in the ongoing Energy Transition and sustainability fuels, which is the core of GE Vernova business.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

• Conduct and lead projects in energy conversion and storage, solid oxide fuel cells and solid oxide electrolysis cells
• Conduct and lead basic & applied research for solid oxide fuel cell testing, including development of testing protocols, building tests, performing equipment maintenance and analyzing results.
• Develop instrumentation and controls necessary for reliable and reproducible testing results
• Work independently and guide development of new technologies and capabilities to enable the use of solid oxide cells in existing and new products.
• Design & execute experiments, and independently lead tasks to benefit GE Vernova businesses and customers.
• Formulate system requirements for energy conversion projects.
• Prepare written reports and presentations for stakeholders that describe the value, strategy & approach and results of work.
• Coordinate analytical work to define, meet or exceed customer entitlements.
• Develop and identify new technology, products and service opportunities in the area of energy conversion and storage
• Connect the organization to the latest technology developments and trends.
• Be aware of competing and disruptive technologies and leverage that knowledge to develop robust technology for the business

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor or associate degree in engineering, materials science, manufacturing, or related field with minimum of 6 months of experience in SOFC testing, instrumentation and controls, LabVIEW programming, trouble shooting, , and test operation
• At least 6 months of experience of innovation in energy storage and conversion technologies, including solid oxide fuel or electrolysis cells, and system integration, cells assembly, performance testing, facilities and maintenance
• At least 6 months of experience applying knowledge of safety practices as it relates to experimental design and lab practices.

• Must be willing to work out of an office located in Malta, NY.

Desired Characteristics

• Demonstrated project execution experience, teamwork experience & ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team.
• Expertise in SOFC manufacturing, specialized in SOFC testing, instrumentation and controls, operation and quality control
• Experience at a commercial solid oxide cell manufacturer or at a government research facility in the area of solid oxide fuel cells or electrolysis cells
• Strong data instrumentation skills, data acquisition, LabVIEW programming, trouble shooting, demonstrated creative problem-solving skills using innovative and hands-on solutions.
• Self-motivated and ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Strong interpersonal skills, highly motivated, self-confidence and have goals for a career in industrial research.
• Ability to adapt to change and willingness to be flexible in a global team environment.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $72,000.00 and $108,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
