Position Summary:
Assists in administering a comprehensive safety, industrial hygiene, environmental and emergency management program.
Consults on technical environmental, industrial hygiene and safety issues/concerns. Acts as expert for fire safety/life safety, general safety, industrial hygiene, or environmental issues/concerns. Investigates accident and incidents as requested.
Develops and revises safety related policies and procedures. Develops and/or delivers environmental, IH, fire safety or other safety-related training as needed.
Represents the department on committees, task forces, improvement projects, ACAs/RCAs, and various other projects. Active participant in construction and design meetings for new and renovated areas.
Assists in classification and disposal of hazardous waste, spill cleanup and oversight, technical assistance with decontamination, and conducts IH monitoring.
Conducts facility inspections and maintains scheduling and database. Assists with planning and conducting fire and other required drills/exercises.
Issues hot work, confined space, crane usage and other permits.
Comfortable with emergency management. Functions as EHSEM on call on rotating basis. Serves as Safety Officer in Hospital Incident Command System. Attends required ICS training.
Position Qualification:
Bachelors required. Masters in Safety (associated disciplines) or Industrial Hygiene preferred. Relevant experience in safety, IH, environmental or a combination of experience and education. Healthcare experience beneficial but not required. One or more of the following certfications or desire to obtain - Safety Professional, Industrial Hygienist, Hazardous Materials Manager, Professional Engineer, Fire Protection Engineer - highly desirable.
