Description

If so, the Specialist I - Traffic Signs & Pavement Markings position within the Citys Public Works Department may be the right career for you, and we will provide paid on-the-job training!

The Specialist I - Traffic Signs & Pavement Markings position is a full-time career opportunity with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $22.35 - $24.58 per hour (equivalent to $46,488 - $51,126 annually. Applicants may be considered for other levels within the department at an annual rate commensurate with qualifications. An exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidates qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy.

As a Specialist I in Traffic Signs & Pavement Markings, youll:

• Install and repair traffic signs following the guidance of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (MUTCD);
• Print, fabricate, and assemble traffic signs for placement in the field;
• Monitor and replenish signage inventory;
• Drive and operate the paint truck system, including but not limited to, loading paint and glass beads using the vacuum system, cleaning the system, and troubleshooting any issues;
• Assist with lane layouts and roadway markings after new pavement is installed;
• Install and repair thermoplastic road markings;
• Set up and remove work zone signage in accordance with regulatory standards;
• Program mobile message boards and place them along the right-of-way in accordance with MUTCD standards;
• Perform snow and ice removal operations and related duties as assigned;
• Operate a city vehicle in the performance of job duties;
• Participate in required stand-by/on-call rotation and duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements at Time of Application:

• High school diploma or GED with coursework in street maintenance, construction, manufacturing, or related field and moderate (1-3 years) experience in the street maintenance, construction, or manufacturing field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet this requirement.
• Valid drivers license.
• Availability and willingness to participate in a non-working hours stand-by program.
• Availability and willingness to participate in departmental operations during inclement weather.

Requirements After Hire Date (On-The-Job Training Provided):

• Class B Commercial Drivers License within six (6) months of hire date;
• Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Intermediate Work Zone Safety Certification within twelve (12) months of hire date;
• International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Signs & Pavement Markings Technician Level I Certification within twenty-four (24) months of hire date.

Successful applicants for this position will be subject to:

• Alcohol and drug testing as required by the Department of Transportations Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA);
• FMCSA Clearinghouse Query;
• DMV record review;
• Job-specific physical;
• Criminal background check.
