Description of Job
The Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB) is accepting applications for a Special Education Teacher / Teacher of the Deaf within the School for the Deaf.
This full-time position reports to the Principal, School for the Deaf, and provides standards-based instruction and educational support primarily to elementary and middle school students who are Deaf or hard of hearing and have additional disabilities. The position may also support high school students as needed.
The Special Education Teacher / Teacher of the Deaf develops and delivers individualized instruction based on student needs, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Colorado Academic Standards, Extended Evidence Outcomes (EEOs), and access skills. The position works collaboratively with families, educators, related service providers, and other members of the educational team to promote students academic, communication, functional, social-emotional, and overall educational development.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
Bachelors degree in Special Education, Deaf Education, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
Must hold or be eligible to obtain appropriate Colorado educator licensurewith an endorsement in one or more of the following areas, or a comparable endorsement:
Special Education Generalist/Specialist; or
Special Education Specialist: Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
Must hold an appropriate subject-area endorsement in Elementary Education or otherwise meet Colorado requirements to be considered in-field in Elementary Education.
Experience teaching or working with children with multiple disabilities in an educational environment.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
Must demonstrate proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) at the Advanced (3+) skill level through an appropriate assessment tool and in accordance with CSDB policy and procedures.
