Special Education Teacher | Olympia, WA | 2026-2027 School Year

Ampersand Therapy is hiring a Special Education Teacher for a contract position with a school district in Olympia, Washington, for the 2026-2027 school year. This is an in-person position beginning September 3, 2026.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

  • Provide specially designed instruction based on students' individual learning needs

  • Create measurable academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and functional goals

  • Adapt curriculum, instruction, and classroom materials to support student access and participation

  • Use differentiated and evidence-based teaching strategies

  • Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and guide instruction

  • Complete evaluations, progress reports, IEP documentation, and other required records

  • Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, and multidisciplinary team planning

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, families, administrators, and related service providers

  • Support students in developing academic, communication, social, behavioral, and independent-living skills

  • Implement behavior support plans and positive classroom-management strategies as appropriate

  • Maintain a safe, structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

  • Ensure services comply with state, federal, and district requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field

  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate with an appropriate Special Education endorsement, or eligibility to obtain one

  • Must have current fingerprints on file with OSPI or be willing to complete the fingerprinting process

  • Previous special education or school-based teaching experience preferred

  • Knowledge of IEP development, progress monitoring, differentiated instruction, and positive behavior supports

  • Strong communication, documentation, organization, and collaboration skills
