Special Education Teacher

We are seeking a full time Special Education Teacher at Woodlands School for the 2026-27 school year.

The schedule will be 40 hours/week.

Salary and benefits provided commensurate with experience.

Started in 1936, Woodlands School is a public charter school through the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Woodlands utilizes a multi-age classroom model that incorporates SEL and character education into daily instruction.

Content area instruction is standards aligned, rigorous, and provides opportunities for project based learning and real world connections.

Overall Teaching Position Details

• Ability to cooperate in a multidisciplinary setting with other district and non-district staff on behalf of children with disabilities.
• An understanding of the IEP team process and the ability to assist in the evaluation and programming for children with disabilities.
• Ability to interact tactfully, effectively and courteously with students, parents and staff.
• Knowledge of current best practices in the education of children and the ability to implement effective instructional strategies.
• Maintains a growth mindset toward student learning, teaching practice, and personal/collective professional development.
• Utilizes data to be responsive to learner needs.
• Collaborates effectively with a variety of stakeholder groups within the organization.
• Recognizes the relationship between social-emotional learning and academic performance, and aspires toward developing and teaching the whole child.
• Works collaboratively with their unit team, teaching assistant, administration, and other staff.

Position Requirements:

• Current valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction teacher certification in Cross Categorical Special Education (1801), or eligibility for full or provisional certification.
• Desire and ability to work with students at the specified age level with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals.
• Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines; manage small and large groups of students in a classroom environment; and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.
• Knowledge of educational software.

• Salary commensurate with experience and related qualifications.
