Special Education Teacher – (2 Positions)

Full‑Time • 2026–2027 School Year 

Location: Kansas City, MO (District‑Wide)

Role Overview

This school district is hiring two Special Education Teachers to join a district‑wide Bench Pool for the 2026–2027 school year. Bench teachers are pre‑qualified, full‑time educators who can be deployed to any school based on student needs, program requirements, and compliance priorities.

This role ensures high‑quality specialized instruction, strong IEP management, and full compliance with state and federal special education regulations. Candidates must be flexible and able to work across early learning, elementary, middle, and high school environments.

Assignment Model

Bench teachers may be placed at any campus, including early learning centers, elementary schools, K–8 academies, high schools, and specialty programs.

Assignments may include:

  • Resource/Inclusion Support — delivering specialized instruction within general education settings

  • Self‑Contained Programs — supporting students with intensive needs

  • Behavioral/Specialized Programs

  • Additional roles such as Case Manager, Teacher of Record, Process Coordinator, or Academic Evaluator

Placement decisions are based on:

  • Student IEP caseloads

  • Compliance timelines

  • School staffing needs

Work may be in‑person, hybrid, or virtual, depending on district requirements.

Work Schedule

  • Full‑time, school‑based schedule

  • Hours follow the assigned school and school district academic calendar

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage IEPs aligned with FAPE requirements

  • Facilitate IEP meetings and serve as case manager

  • Maintain all required documentation (IEPs, progress reports, PWN, meeting notes)

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

  • Implement and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)

  • Track student progress and ensure compliance with service minutes

  • Supervise paraprofessionals and support staff

  • Apply evidence‑based instructional and behavioral strategies

  • Complete district‑required billing and service logs

  • Communicate effectively with families, staff, and school leaders

  • Participate in problem‑solving teams, IEP teams, and professional development

Supervision

May oversee:

  • Paraprofessionals

  • New teachers

  • Support staff (based on assignment)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

  • Active or eligible Missouri Teaching License with Special Education endorsement

  • Strong knowledge of:

    • Special education law & compliance

    • IEP development and case management

    • Differentiated instruction

    • Assistive and instructional technology

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
