Job Description:
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Special Education Supervisor will serve as a key member of the District's administrative team under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services. Working collaboratively with fellow Special Education Supervisors and building administrators, the successful candidate will oversee special education programs and supervise certified staff within assigned schools to ensure the delivery of high-quality services that meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
The ideal candidate will be a student-centered, innovative, and collaborative leader with strong problem-solving skills and a demonstrated commitment to improving outcomes for all learners. Experience leading and supporting alternative education programs is required.
CERTIFICATION:
The successful candidate must possess valid New York State SDA or SDL certification and hold one or more of the following certifications preferred: Special Education, Students with Disabilities, School Psychologist, School Social Worker, or Speech and Language Disabilities.
TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Probationary Track Position
QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful background in special education; prior administrative experience preferred;
Comprehensive knowledge of instructional practices, including differentiation and specially designed instruction;
Strong understanding of Federal and New York State special education laws and regulations;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Experience in staff supervision, evaluation, and professional development;
Demonstrated ability to facilitate collaborative and productive CSE/sub-CSE meetings resulting in effective IEP development;
Leadership skills that foster collaboration, accountability, and high standards of professional practice.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide leadership and oversight in the implementation of special education programs and services;
Supervise and support certified staff to ensure instructional quality, compliance, and student success;
Collaborate with district and building administrators to ensure consistency and continuity of services across schools;
Chair CSE and sub-CSE meetings and oversee the development of appropriate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs);
Observe, coach, and evaluate special education staff with an emphasis on improving instructional practices and student achievement;
Serve as a liaison with families and community stakeholders to promote inclusive and equitable educational practices;
Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or administration.
LOCATION: Lakeland Central School District
ANTICIPATED START DATE: July 2026
SALARY:
In accordance with the Association of Lakeland Administrators (ALA) Bargaining Unit Agreement ($140,992 - $152,614)
