Position
Summary
Ferndale
Public
Schools
is
seeking
a
collaborative
and
student-centered
Special
Education
Resource
Teacher
to
support
students
in
grades
3-5
at
the
Ferndale
Upper
Elementary
School.
This
part-time
position
is
responsible
for
providing
high-quality
specially
designed
instruction,
individualized
supports,
and
inclusive
services
that
enable
students
with
disabilities
to
access
the
general
education
curriculum
and
make
meaningful
progress
toward
their
Individualized
Education
Program
(IEP)
goals.
The
successful
candidate
will
work
closely
with
general
education
teachers,
paraeducators,
related
service
providers,
administrators,
and
families
to
create
an
inclusive
learning
environment
where
every
student
is
supported
academically,
socially,
and
emotionally.
This
position
requires
expertise
in
special
education
programming,
progress
monitoring,
positive
behavior
supports,
and
compliance
with
state
and
federal
special
education
requirements,
including
the
development
and
implementation
of
IEPs,
METs,
Functional
Behavior
Assessments
(FBAs),
and
Behavior
Intervention
Plans
(BIPs).

Qualifications
Required-Valid
Michigan
Teacher
Certificate
with
Special
Education
Endorsement
and/or
immediate
eligibility
for
temporary
certification.
Preferred-Endorsement
in
Autism
(SV)
or
Cognitive
Impairment
(SA)
Demonstrated
ability
to
utilize
best
practices
and
universal
support
strategies
to
educate
students
in
grades
3-5
with
varying
disabilities.
Proficiency
in
the
development
of
IEPs,
METs,
FBAs,
and
BIPs
Knowledge
of
data
collection,
positive
behavior
supports
and
intervention,
curriculum
supports,
accommodations
and
modifications,
and
communication
strategies
Exceptional
communication
skills
with
parents,
teachers,
ancillary
staff
and
paraeducators
Ability
to
work
collaboratively
with
general
education
teachers,
paraeducators
and
special
education
support
staff
to
effectively
address
student
needs
and
behaviors
in
the
general
education
and
special
education
setting.
Duties
and
Responsibilities
Support
student
progress
in
the
general
education
curriculum
&
setting,
and
provide
evidence
of
student
mastery
of
instructional
content
&
achievement
of
IEP
goals/
objectives
Develop
and
provide
Specially
Designed
Instruction
to
ensure
students
demonstrate
meaningful
educational
progress,
in
the
special
education
(pull-out)
and
general
education
classroom
(push-in)
settings
Communicate
regularly
with
parents
during
and
outside
of
the
normal
classroom
day
by
means
of
newsletters,
notes,
phone
calls,
conferences,
etc.
Complete
and
maintain
all
required
documentation
(attendance
records,
reports,
IEPs,
progress
reports,
behavior
data/
plans,
accommodation/service
logs,
etc.)
Participate
in
building
special
education
team
activities,
PLCs,
and
collaboration
Participate
as
a
member
on
the
MET
team
and/or
Student
Assistance
Team,
as
appropriate
Utilize
varying
assessments
to
inform
instruction,
assess
student
progress,
on
ongoing
basis
Participate
in
professional
development
activities
both
in-district
as
well
as
outside
to
enhance
instructional
effectiveness
Record
student
attendance
daily
On-site
presence
required
Other
