(Effective 2026-2027 School Year)

LOCATION: Thorne Elementary School

REPORTS TO: Building principal

COMPENSATION: According to the current contract with MEA/NEA

BENEFITS: Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Paraprofessional to assist student(s) with special needs including, but not limited to: assisting the student throughout the day with physical needs, including hygiene (change diaper and catheter), mobility and classroom support needs.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma
  • Sixty (60) credit hours, an associate's degree or a minimum score of 460 on the ParaPro Assessment
  • Experience working in an educational setting, preferred
  • Great communication skills

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Be trained in multiple interventions needed to support students
  • Provide small group instruction/support
  • Provide individual instruction/support
  • Assist in classroom management
  • Provide written and verbal student feedback
  • Assist in monitoring student achievement
  • Assist with computer related activities
  • Complete daily/weekly time logs that demonstrate interventions/strategies used with specific EL children
  • Share a commitment to the success of the mission, goals, and objectives of the Westwood Community School District.
  • Support and fully participate in a school culture that focuses on student achievement.
  • Set high expectations and standards for the achievement of students and own personal performance.
  • Participate in offered professional development that directly supports continuous student achievement of the district's academic standards.
  • Support a school philosophy that values continuous improvement tied to student learning and related school goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must follow directions and ideas and implement plans as outlined by Coach, classroom Teacher and Principal
  • Must have good organizational skills
  • Must keep accurate documentation as required
  • Good interpersonal skills with children, parents and staff
  • Ability to operate computers and related software
  • Must be flexible
  • Must be self-directed
  • Must have regular punctual attendance
  • Must maintain confidentiality
