Special Education: Life Skills Teacher

Provide specialized instruction to middle school students with significant learning, developmental, behavioral, and/or functional needs.

Create a structured, supportive, and predictable classroom environment that promotes student success, safety, and independence.

Teach functional academics, including practical reading, writing, mathematics, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Develop students'' independent life skills, including organization, personal responsibility, self-care, time management, and daily routines.

Provide instruction in social-emotional and interpersonal skills, including communication, self-advocacy, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and appropriate peer interactions.

Differentiate and modify curriculum, assignments, assessments, and instructional materials to meet individual student needs.

Develop, implement, monitor, and collect data on IEP goals and objectives, using student performance data to adjust instruction and interventions.

Collaborate effectively with general education teachers, special education staff, paraprofessionals, related-service providers, counselors, behavior specialists, and administrators.

Provide clear direction, modeling, and support to paraprofessionals working within the Life Skills classroom.

Utilize positive behavior supports, reinforcement systems, de-escalation strategies, and individualized behavior plans when appropriate.

Maintain accurate documentation regarding student progress, accommodations, services, behavioral data, and IEP implementation.

Communicate consistently and professionally with families regarding student progress, successes, concerns, and areas for continued growth.

Participate actively in IEP meetings, Student Support Team meetings, transition planning, and other collaborative problem-solving processes.
