Special Education/General Education Teacher - Homebound

Job Title:Special Education/General Education Teacher - HomeboundReports To:Director of Special EducationClassification:ProfessionalWage/Hour Status:ExemptDays:188Salary:See Compensation Plan for New Hire Guide for TeachersContract:Probationary/TermDate Revised:2/4/2026Primary Purpose:Responsible for the instructional program and guidance of students identified as needing homebound/hospital services.Qualifications/Skills:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or Teaching Certificate from out of state appropriate for position.
  • ESL Certification required during 1st year if it has not been already obtained.
  • Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this positon in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Middle/High School Math or Science certification preferred.
  • Special Education Certification.
  • General Education Certification.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in the effective use of technology.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.

Major Duties and

Responsibilities:

Instructional Strategies:

  • Provide 1-1 instruction in the home/hospital setting for students who are unable to attend schooldue to a medical or psychological condition.
  • Adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines in the delivery of services to eligible students.
  • Modify instructional strategies, activities, and evaluations to meet individual needs of students.
  • Ability to collect and utilize data.

Student Growth and Development:

  • Provide instructional services for each eligible student.
  • Collaborate with school personnel and classroom teachers of record in securing and returning assignments and materials for students.
  • Keep accurate records of each student's assignments, dates of services, and attendance.

Communication:

  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents and school personnel concerning both academic and behavioral progress of students.
  • Notify campus staff with student progress concerns so a meeting can be scheduled.

Professional Growth and Development:

  • Participate in available staff development activities designed to enhance skills of homebound/hospital teachers.

Other:

  • Provide personal transportation to assigned schools and home or hospital instructional setting with travel expenses reimbursed by the district.
  • Maintain flexibility in the performance of required duties.
  • Attend homebound/hospital student meetings for eligible students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:NoneEquipment Used:Computer, IPAD, Hot Spot, copy machine and audio visual machines.Working Conditions:

Mental Demands:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work with frequent interruptions.
  • This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
  • Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks and other classroom or adaptive equipment.
  • May require occasional extended hours.
