Nature of Work

Typical Class Responsibilities

  • Provides training, modeling, implementation guidance, support, resources and/or exemplars for special education instruction best practices
  • Provides up to date training and collaborative support for teachers, paraprofessionals, and/or administrators on proactive and responsive strategies to support students in their least restrictive environment
  • Provides consultative recommendations and implementation support for individually designed behavioral and/or academic interventions
  • Designs or participates in the design and implementation of academic and/or behavioral systems to support students including data collection, progress monitoring, and fidelity of interventions
  • Collaborates with a variety of stakeholders and other Consultation Team Members on large projects as assigned
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Training and Experience Requirements

This position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree and license or able to obtain a license from the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) in Emotional Behavior Disorders (K-12), Autism Spectrum Disorder (K-12) and/or Developmental Disabilities (K-12). Candidates that hold a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification will also be considered.

Functional Specific Responsibilities

Using the Student-Centered Coaching framework, the Instructional Coach will:

  • Engage in formal coaching cycles with teachers. Core practices include:

  • Facilitate coaching cycles

  • Set goals with the teacher for the cycle based on academic standards or learning outcomes

  • Unpack the goal into learning targets and identify success criteria

  • Co-plan instruction with the teacher based on evidence of student learning

  • Co-teach using effective instructional practices

  • Measure the impact of the coaching cycle on student learning and teacher practice

  • Partner with site leadership to implement the program's vision and improvement goals, as well as larger district initiatives and strategic actions

  • Design and deliver site-based professional development in collaboration with site leadership on topics including research-based instructional strategies, culturally relevant pedagogy, and data-driven instruction, among others

  • Collaborate with Teaching & Learning to facilitate curriculum adoption, review, and implementation

  • Participate in a district-wide Instructional Coaches PLC facilitated by Teaching & Learning

  • Support teachers in developing effective instructional practices based on the 5D+ Rubric for Instructional Growth and Teacher Evaluation

  • Support program in implementing highly effective PLCs

  • Complete other duties as assigned based on site or program needs

Training and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree and 3 years of teaching experience. This position carries a four-year term, with the possibility of a one-year extension subject to administrator approval. Following the fifth year, the incumbent must reapply to be considered for a new term.

Licensing Requirements

Licensure from the MN Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board in Emotional Behavior Disorders (K-12), Autism Spectrum Disorders (K-12) or Developmental Disabilities (K-12). .

Nature of Work

Incumbents are responsible for consulting with staff to plan strategies for, and ensure standardization of, managing student behavior. Position Description

Provide instruction to high school students enrolled in our Career and Technical Center located at Century College in White Bear Lake, MN. This position is responsible for instruction that is designed to explore careers as a dental assistant, dental hygienist, dental lab technician, dental receptionist, and dentist. Included in this program is classroom instruction, chair-side procedures, laboratory skills, job shadow experience and service projects. The person assigned to this position will also develop, review and revise instructional materials which closely align with post-secondary partners, and will evaluate student progress and establish objectives to facilitate maximum learning potential for every student. Responsible for teaching students in assigned disciplines in classrooms, small groups, or at home; adapting teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests; developing individual educational plans designed to promote students' educational, physical, or social development; establishing and enforcing rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students; administering tests to help determine students' developmental levels, needs, or potential; and conferring with parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, or administrators to resolve students' behavioral or academic problems.

Typical Class Responsibilities

  • Implements and delivers instructional activities to students; instructs and monitors students in the use of learning materials and resources; monitors and assesses student progress and competency mastery, which includes: identifying appropriate assessment methods; developing and administering tests; grading assigned student work; providing performance feedback; and performing other related activities.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates curriculum; establishes learning objectives; prepares and evaluates lesson plans; evaluates and selects instructional resources and/or specialized resources; adapts materials and curriculum to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Manages student behavior, which includes: developing and implementing classroom rules and applicable disciplinary procedures; assisting in the administration of applicable behavioral policies and rules; and providing appropriate interventions and strategies to address behavior issues.
  • Maintains accurate and complete student records including grades, achievements, development, and attendance.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings, which may include: parent or guardian conferences, special education briefings, staff and/or committee meetings, staff development sessions, and/or other related meetings.
  • Performs related support functions, which may include: preparing correspondence and reports; responding to inquiries; and performing related duties.
  • Provides feedback to education and student assistants; gives direction to assistants as necessary.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Functional Class Responsibilities

  • Supports students to explore a variety of entry-level careers in cosmetology.
  • Develops relationships to motivate students to reach their potential.
  • Creates and delivers cutting-edge lessons using the latest technology, trends and name-brand products for cosmetology, esthiology, and nail technology.
  • Cultivates the skills to reach learners with many abilities and from many cultures.

Training and Experience Requirements

  • MN Board of Cosmetology Instructor license.
  • Work experience as a cosmetologist in a salon.
  • Licensed or willing to obtain a license from the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) Cosmetology (9 -12).
  • MN Board of Cosmetology Operator/Salon Manager license preferred.
  • Teaching experience in a school setting is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
