Special Education Coordinator

The position of a Special Education Coordinator will be available at East Central ISD for the 2026-2027 school year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE: To coordinate efforts to identify, evaluate, and recommend services and supports for students with disabilities.. To ensure compliance with all state and federal legislation pertaining to students with disabilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Review and collaborate with personnel in verifying training requirements of individuals providing specialized instructional services and supports for students with disabilities.
  • Serve as liaison between special education personnel, administrators, and parents.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of referral information prior to referral for testing.
  • Coordinate campus-level and district meetings of special education personnel.
  • Coordinate staff development programs and professional learning opportunities based on results of needs assessments.
  • Assist the Director of Special Education in activities that ensure compliance with laws, rules, and policies concerning special education.
  • Coordinate parent/community involvement activities.
  • Coordinate extended school year summer programming and staff professional development for determination of student needs.
  • Assist instructional staff in planning, designing, and implementing instructional activities and programs that promote "best practices" for students with disabilities.
  • Design, develop, and assist in the implementation of quality services and programs for students identified under IDEA and other disability categories.
  • Support the district's vision of continuous growth and student achievement by collaborating with LSSPs, Educational Diagnosticians, Speech Language Pathologists, administrators, and teachers.
  • Support training and development of evaluation personnel in the identification of disabilities and related educational needs within the FIE (Full & Individual Evaluation).
  • Serve as a resource to district and department staff on disabilities and related educational supports.
  • Maintain current working knowledge of evidence-based practices in special education services and instructional supports.
  • Develop and conduct parent awareness training for parents of students identified with disabilities and related educational needs.
  • Analyze data and provide recommendations for programming for students receiving special education services.
  • Ensure student progress is regularly and systematically evaluated, and data are used to improve the effectiveness of special education programming.
  • Provide guidance and monitor screening and evaluation procedures as required by Texas state law (TEC §38.003) and district processes.
  • Oversee implementation of district screening and evaluation procedures consistent with state guidelines and special education guidance.
  • Have regular attendance.
  • Maintain confidentiality consistent with federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Master's Degree from an accredited University-prefered

Special Education Certification

Professional Development design and implementation experience preferred

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively

Special Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of regulations set forth by Texas Education Agency, District Policies, State and Federal Regulations

Basic computer skills

Ability to provide excellent customer service and to work cooperatively with students, staff and families

Strong organizational skills, both written and oral

Strong interpersonal skills

Strong written and oral communication

WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards. Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job. Frequent district-wide travel.

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: 220 days-basis

SALARY: Based on the 2026-2027 Administrative Professional Pay Scale 104
