POSITION: Special Education Coordinator/Gifted Teacher
Contract: 220-day contract, effective 2026-2027 school year
Qualifications:
- WV Professional Teaching Certificate with endorsements in one or more areas of special education to include autism and gifted
- Masters Degree in Special Education
- Minimum of ten (10) years successful teaching experience to include special education
- Education administrative experience preferred
- Experience in development of Individual Education Programs (IEP) on the WVEIS online system
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide gifted instruction to identified students per their IEP
- Case management for students identified as gifted or exceptionally gifted
- Assist with the evaluation process for students referred for special education services
- Assist schools with implementing specially designed instruction in integrated classrooms
- Assist schools with secondary transition planning and services for students with disabilities
- Assist schools with implementing strategies to increase the graduation rate of students with disabilities
- Monitor students with disabilities discipline and oversee the disciplinary action review and manifestation determination review processes
- Participate in school Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) teams to ensure students with disabilities have been provided schoolwide PBIS system of supports
- Review IEP documentation and provide corrective feedback to school staff
- Assist in the monitoring of compliance for the district's special education program
- Assist in scheduling special education related meetings and participate when necessary
- Support new special education staff by providing training as applicable
- Assist schools with the preparation for students taking the alternate summative assessment
- Support district and school improvement efforts applicable to special education
- Assist schools in the Multi-Tiered System of Supports ensuring compliance with Policy 2419
- Perform other duties as assigned

SALARY: According to Wirt County Schools Salary Schedule ($8,800 Supplement)
