Special Education Coordinator 9-Transition

The Special Education 9-Transition Coordinator provides district-level leadership and educational oversight to ensure rigorous compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the delivery of high-quality specialized instruction within the elementary setting. Under the direction of the Director of Student Services, this role ensures the integrity of the K-12 Special Education Service Matrix and collaborates with secondary coordinators and the Intensive Services Coordinator to represent and support students with complex needs.

The Coordinator serves as a strategic partner to building administrators and IEP teams, optimizing inclusive service delivery models and resource allocation to improve outcomes for all High School learners.

This position includes ten extended contract days, including planned time with the other special education coordinators. The days are subject to review and adjustment based on need.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Data Use, Systems Coordination & Instructional Leadership

• Coordinate the implementation of evidence-based specialized instruction and inclusive service delivery models
• Advance district special education initiatives as an integral member of the district special education coordination team
• Calibrate the development of special education schedules at the building level to ensure service delivery is precisely matched to student needs
• Analyze special education data to evaluate the efficacy of instructional methods
• Monitor the 9-12 Special Education Service Matrix, providing data-driven recommendations using the matrix compilation to the Director of Student Services and the special education coordination team for staffing and resource shifts
• Lead the "Intake" and Transition processes for High School students entering the district or moving across grade levels, ensuring continuity of care and appropriate placement, ensuring students' schedules meet their needs
• Coordinate essential auxiliary services, including Extended School Year (ESY) programming and specialized transportation logistics for new and existing students

2. Team Consultation & Professional Learning

• Serve as a key consultant and resource for High School Administration, learning strategists, and general education teachers in the areas of inclusive instructional design, co-serving models, and complex problem-solving
• Develop and/or facilitate regular Local Education Agency (LEA) training, ensuring staff calibration on eligibility, intervention procedures, and legal compliance
• Develop and/or facilitate EA Training

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

Licensure: Current DPI educator license in an area of Special Education (K-12 or High School focus) or Pupil Services.

Experience: At least 5 years of successful special education experience preferred, with a strong background in 9-Transition instructional practices.

Education: Bachelor''s degree in Special Education or Educational Leadership preferred.

Competencies: Evidence of competencies in social-emotional instruction, inclusive practices, and the K-12 Special Education Allocation Matrix is strongly encouraged.

Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to navigate complex legal frameworks while maintaining a student-centered approach with parents and staff. Utilize excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to ensure alignment for students with the most complex needs.
