Job Description
Position Title: Special Education Building Sub/Support
Department: Student Services / Building Support
Salary Schedule: Paraprofessional, P-IV; Part-Time
Reports To: Building Principal / Assistant Principal
Position Summary
The Building Paraprofessional position provides flexible, in-building coverage to support student needs and instructional
continuity throughout the school day for special education students. This individual serves as a first-line resource for student
support (behavioral, academic, and supervisory) and steps in as a substitute as needed for special education within the
building. This is a part-time, building-based position designed to support student achievement and minimize disruption to
student services when staff absences occur.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct student support services, including assistance with behavior management, academic reinforcement, and
daily routines.
- Serve as an on-call substitute for the building
- Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, recess/playground, and other common areas as needed.
- Assist classroom teachers and specialists in implementing student support plans, including IEP and 504
accommodations, under the direction of certified staff.
- Support students with de-escalation and redirection strategies in accordance with building protocols.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive environment for students throughout the building.
- Communicate professionally and appropriately with students, staff, and families.
- Respond promptly to daily building assignments, which may change based on staffing needs.
- Maintain accurate records/logs of support provided, as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by building administration.
Minimum Qualifications
- Active Substitute Teacher Certification (as required by the state/district) - required.
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree or higher preferred.
- Become highly qualified as required by the state.
- Prior experience working with students in a school is preferred.
- Ability to work flexibly across multiple classrooms, grade levels, and student needs within a single day.
- Strong communication, patience, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
- Computer literate (Mac preference) and able to learn district supported programs including student database and
recordkeeping.
Physical Requirements / Environmental Demands

- Ability to stand, walk, and supervise students for extended periods.
- Ability to respond quickly to student needs, including intervention/redirection when required by training and protocol.
- Ability to lift/assist students as needed, consistent with building safety guidelines.
- Occasional exposure to weather extremes
- Exposure to loud noises
- Ability to work under fluorescent lights
Compensation
This position is compensated on the Paraprofessional, PIV Salary Schedule, based on the district's current approved pay
scale.
Work Schedule
Part-time, following the district's regular school-year calendar and building hours. Daily assignments may vary based on
staffing needs.
