Description

The School District of Bloomer is seeking a Special Education Aide.

This position is for a Special Education Aide to assist students with special needs and may require training in basic hygiene (including toileting), medical, or other life skills. This position may also include assisting students with transfers. There is a minimum lifting requirement of 50 pounds.

Applicants must be able to pass a background check, have a minimum of a high school diploma, and experience working with children is preferred. Post-secondary education is considered a plus. The successful applicant will need to be or be able to be certified with the Department of Public Instruction as a Special Education Aide.

Job Title: Certified Aide

Position Summary:

To assist teachers in providing instruction, guided practice, assessments, remediation and enrichment through a variety of learning opportunities and ensure a positive, successful educational experience for students. Assists in ensuring that all students acquire the grade level expectation skills set forth by Wisconsin Department of Instruction and the School District of Bloomer curriculum.

Qualifications:

  • Maintenance of proper license and certification as required by the Department of Public Instruction;
  • Ability to create a collaborative work culture;
  • Possess the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and administration;
  • Must have a strong work ethic.
  • Understand the basic function and processes of a school schedule
  • Ability to operate a computer or other electronic devices and associated media;
  • Ability to participate in creating a positive school culture.

  • Assist in maintaining an atmosphere conducive to learning;
  • Assist in the supervision of students in other areas of the school as assigned (bathrooms, playground, bus, field trips, lunch room, classroom(s), library etc);
  • Assist physically disabled or impaired students upon school arrivals/departures, from room to room, and activity to activity;
  • Assist with toileting or other essential support skills as required;
  • Record student academic and behavioral progress as monitored by the teacher;
  • Participate in conferences and meetings as assigned;
  • Prepare learning materials and bulletin board displays;
  • Provide routine maintenance of materials (e.g. put away/prepare materials);
  • Maintain confidentiality;
  • Complete all mandated and district-required training in health and safety; and
  • Assume other duties as may be assigned by the building principal or assigned classroom teacher.

Evaluation: Conducted annually by the Principal and and/or Special Education Director.

Physical Requirements:

Work at a keyboard or other tools, bending, sitting, walking, and standing for extended periods of time, twisting, fine and gross motor movements, hearing, speaking, and lifting materials and supplies of up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Mental Demands:

Ability to maintain confidentiality; communicate clearly both orally and in writing

Environmental Conditions:

Exposed to moderate noise levels.

Other Conditions: The District administrator reserves the authority to assign additional duties and responsibilities as necessary within the scope of the employment position.

The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or illegal substance in the workplace in compliance with Policy 4120.01 throughout his/her employment in the District.

No overtime-eligible employee may perform work for the District outside of his/her regular schedule without prior supervisory approval. Violations of this requirement will result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination from employment.
