Sous Chef

Sunset Hills Country Club – Edwardsville, Illinois

Sunset Hills Country Club is seeking an experienced and dependable Sous Chef to join our culinary leadership team. This full-time position offers an annual salary of $65,000–$70,000, based on experience, with benefits available.

The Sous Chef will assist the Executive Chef with daily kitchen operations, staff supervision, food preparation, menu execution, inventory control, sanitation, and maintaining consistent food quality. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader who works well in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in delivering an exceptional dining experience.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily restaurant, banquet, and special-event food production
  • Supervise, train, schedule, and motivate kitchen employees
  • Maintain consistent food quality, presentation, and portion standards
  • Support menu development, daily specials, wine dinners, and club events
  • Monitor food costs, inventory, purchasing, waste, and proper product rotation
  • Ensure compliance with food-safety, sanitation, and workplace-safety standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional kitchen
  • Assist with receiving deliveries and verifying product quality
  • Lead kitchen operations in the Executive Chef’s absence
  • Work cooperatively with the front-of-house and event teams

Qualifications

  • Previous Sous Chef or culinary leadership experience a must
  • Strong cooking, organizational, and supervisory skills
  • Experience with restaurant, banquet, or private-club operations is a plus
  • Working knowledge of food costs, inventory management, and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to remain organized and professional during high-volume service
  • ServSafe Manager Certification preferred or ability to obtain certification
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and remain on your feet for extended periods

Schedule and Compensation

  • Full-time salaried position
  • Annual salary of $65,000–$70,000, based on experience
