This is a hands-on Sous Chef position for an experienced restaurant professional who can run service, lead a team, and keep a busy kitchen organized. You’ll help lead a manageable 5–10 person BOH team in a 120-seat restaurant, with service ranging from approximately 40–75 covers during typical periods and reaching up to 250 covers during higher-volume periods.

The schedule is approximately 47–52 hours per week, with medical benefits, paid time off, flexible scheduling, and easy access by public transportation.

This is not a desk-based kitchen management position. We’re looking for a chef who wants to be involved in the operation, works well with others, and can take ownership of execution, organization, food safety, ordering, receiving, inventory, and the day-to-day details that keep a kitchen running well.

About the Role

As Sous Chef, you’ll help lead daily BOH operations while maintaining food quality, consistency, organization, food safety, and service execution.

You should be comfortable leading from the kitchen, working alongside the team, maintaining standards during busy services, and handling the operational responsibilities that come with helping run a professional kitchen.

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Lead by example during prep and service

  • Step into production and service when needed

Service typically ranges from approximately 40–75 covers and can reach up to 250 covers during higher-volume periods.

Responsibilities

  • Help oversee daily kitchen operations
  • Lead and support approximately 5–10 BOH employees
  • Maintain food quality, consistency, and presentation
  • Execute and reinforce established recipes and procedures
  • Support prep and service
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory management
  • Maintain food safety and sanitation standards
  • Organize kitchen workflow and station readiness
  • Train and coach BOH employees
  • Communicate effectively with management and the kitchen team
  • Maintain execution during high-volume services
  • Work hands-on in the kitchen as operationally necessary

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of relevant professional kitchen experience preferred
  • Previous Sous Chef, kitchen leadership, or comparable BOH experience
  • Strong understanding of restaurant kitchen operations
  • Experience with ordering, receiving, and inventory
  • Working knowledge of food safety and sanitation
  • Ability to follow and reinforce written recipes and instructions
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced restaurant environment
  • Able to work in a standing position and regularly reach, bend, and stoop
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • English proficiency required
