    Description

    Application deadline: Nov 8, 2026

Do you want to help the U.S. Army and broader Department of War adopt innovative cloud computing solutions that make a real difference? As a Senior Solutions Architect within the World Wide Public Sector practice at Amazon Web Services (AWS), you will work directly with U.S. Army customers and a broad ecosystem of system integrators and solution providers to design and deliver cloud architectures that address complex data, security, and mission requirements. Our team is growing to keep pace with rising demand as defense customers modernize their technology platforms - and this is your chance to be part of that momentum. You will own implementation architectures and shape strategies for projects involving large-scale data workloads and a broad range of AWS services, such as Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS), Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), and Amazon Bedrock. You will also advise customers on how generative AI capabilities can accelerate their missions. If you are a pragmatic, curious builder who thrives on variety and excels at briefing customers, we want to hear from you. This position requires willingness to travel within the U.S. and overseas up to 35%.

The candidate selected must be a U.S. citizen and able to either hold, or obtain and hold, a Top Secret security clearance.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Design end-to-end cloud architectures for Army customers, evaluating trade-offs across security, reliability, performance, cost, and operational readiness to meet mission-critical requirements.
    • Serve as a trusted technical advisor to senior government stakeholders, building relationships, and guiding their long-term technology strategy while ensuring near-term decisions support broader business outcomes.
    • Own technical engagements from initial scoping through implementation, defining solution architectures for large-scale data workloads and working with system integrators and solution providers to deliver results.
    • Lead technical discussions with customer and partner teams, proactively identifying high-risk or overly complex options and engaging specialist resources when the situation calls for deeper review.
    • Capture and share best practices across the AWS Solutions Architect community by contributing reference designs, reusable artifacts, and thought leadership content such as presentations, workshops, and technical write-ups.

    A day in the life

You might start your morning reviewing a data architecture proposal for an Army customer, then join a whiteboarding session with a system integrator to map out how AWS services will support a specific workload. After lunch, you could brief a senior government leader on a proof of concept showing how Amazon Bedrock addresses an emerging GenAI requirement. Later, you work with your sales and business development counterparts to prepare an RFP response or build out a reference architecture or Proof of Concept (POC) that other Solutions Architects on the team can reuse.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
