    Description

Do you like helping the U.S. Army and broader Department of War implement cloud computing solutions and solve difficult technical problems? Do you have a knack for helping these groups understand application architectures and integration approaches, and the consultative skills to launch a project on a trajectory to success?

As a Solutions Architect II at Amazon, you will help accelerate our rapidly growing Department of War business as part of the World Wide Public Sector practice. You will shape and deliver on a strategy to build broad use of Amazon Web Services (e.g., Amazon EKS, Amazon S3, AWS Lambda, Amazon EC2, Amazon Bedrock, etc.) directly with customers and our ecosystem of system integrators and solution providers. Your work will span data services, generative AI, serverless, compute, and storage, with a particular focus on database modernization and migration efforts that improve how the Army operates and delivers on its mission. This is an opportunity to join a truly collaborative technical team while developing your skills and furthering your career at Amazon.

You will provide thoughtful technical design and offer sensitivity to our customer needs in the Defense markets for cloud computing working with a truly innovative sales and business development team. You will lead efforts to capture and share best-practice knowledge amongst the AWS solution architect community. You will have the opportunity to learn from, collaborate with, and educate some of the brightest technical minds in the industry today across the breadth of enterprise architecture.

You should apply to this role if you are passionate about:

    • Creating, building, educating, training and designing cloud computing architectures, especially if it's for Defense Department customers.
    • Getting hands on to experiment, build, and demonstrate technology solutions leveraging the latest AI technologies to expedite delivery and quality.
    • Deep-dive technical discussions around design and the curiosity to keep your technical skills current while maintaining a pulse on industry trends
    • Our company credo: "Work hard. Have fun. Make history." It's critical to love what you do and take pride in your value proposition to our customers.

Must be willing to travel within the US and overseas up to 35%. This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Design and deliver cloud architectures for Army workloads spanning data services, generative AI, serverless, compute, and storage, evaluating trade-offs across areas such as data store selection, scaling strategy, and failover mechanisms.
    • Own the technical engagement and success of implementation projects, including defining implementation architectures and responding to RFPs, while developing deep expertise in AWS technologies and how applications are built on the platform.
    • Serve as a trusted technical advisor and security subject matter expert to Army and Department of Defense stakeholders, helping them identify opportunities and risks with their technical decisions and guiding solution adoption.
    • Lead database modernization and migration engagements, leveraging repeatable design patterns and reference architectures where appropriate and creating new reusable designs when novel approaches are required.
    • Capture and share best-practice knowledge across the Solutions Architect community through presentations, workshops, written guidance, and peer collaboration.

    A day in the life

Your morning might start with an architecture review alongside Army technical staff, where you help them evaluate database options and security controls for a migration workload. After lunch, you join a peer design review with fellow Solutions Architects to pressure-test a serverless approach you have been developing. Later in the afternoon, you work with a system integrator partner to align on an implementation architecture for an upcoming RFP, then wrap up by preparing a workshop for customer technical leadership.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
